Soy wax KeraGreen Pillar in pastille form represents an ecological and natural solution for casting freestanding candles in molds. Its practical form in the shape of granules makes it easier to measure the amount of wax needed for candle making and to mix dyes and fragrances. This plant-based wax ensures clean and even burning, while being environmentally friendly. The wax is made from soybeans that are GMO, however no GMO is present in the wax itself (it is measured only in the proteins).
Soy wax KeraGreen Pillar is produced from renewable and biodegradable sources within the European Union.
It can be colored and holds fragrance well. It is compatible with most fragrance oils and essential oils, achieving the best results with fragrances that are designed specifically for soy waxes. It is not necessary to add any further additives. Parts of candles can be remelted and reused, but heating the wax above 85°C is not recommended.
Before you start making candles, study the manufacturing procedure in detail and test each new combination (whether container, wick, fragrance, color, or blends of different waxes) on one small candle and perform a burn test. Only when the burn result is fully satisfactory should you start producing candles in larger quantities. This will help you avoid unnecessary disappointment and the devaluation of a large amount of material.
How to melt the wax: We recommend melting the wax and keeping it warm at a temperature around 70-75°C. The melting point of the wax is approx. 50°C. Continuous stirring during melting is important to prevent scorching. Just before the wax is completely melted, it is recommended to reduce the heating power. Avoid prolonged heating of the wax above 85-90°C.
How to color the wax: If you want to color the wax using special candle dyes, we recommend temporarily increasing the wax temperature so that the dyes dissolve and disperse properly. Ideally, mix the dye with a small amount of wax, which is heated to 75°C and mixed thoroughly. This colored portion is then stirred into the wax heated to approx. 70°C, again taking care to mix thoroughly and work the dye into the wax. The dye must be evenly dispersed. If you want to create darker color shades, add a small amount of black.
How to add fragrances: You can add fragrance to the candles by using essential oils or fragrance oils, or a combination of them. Before using the fragrances themselves, verify that they are fully soluble in oils (all fragrances from our range can be used in candles and are soluble in oils). The amount depends on the type of fragrance used. In general, fragrance oils are much more concentrated and therefore a smaller amount is sufficient compared to essential oils. Fragrance oils are already blended fragrance compositions, while essential oils are pure single-note fragrances that we recommend blending to achieve an ideal result. You can read more about the difference between fragrance oils and essential oils in the articles Fragrance Oils and Essential Oils. For this type of wax, 5 - 8 % of fragrant components is ideal, the maximum usable amount is 10%. Fragrant components are best added just before pouring the wax into containers at a minimum temperature of 70°C. After adding the fragrance, we recommend stirring the wax for 1-2 minutes to achieve ideal dispersion of the fragrance.
How to choose the right wick: The optimal wick size depends on the final dimensions of the candle. In general, candles with a larger diameter need a stronger wick, or the use of more than one wick. In addition, blends of plant-based waxes have a much higher viscosity than paraffin waxes and therefore need stronger burning wicks. We strongly emphasize that each combination of wick and wax must be properly tested before you start candle production. Since the burning of the wick is influenced, in addition to the candle diameter and the type of wax used, also by the type and amount of added dyes, we cannot guarantee correct and trouble-free burning for every combination. The final wick selection should always be confirmed by individual testing by the customer. We recommend performing the first test using only pure wax and, if you are satisfied with the burning results, gradually adding various concentrations of fragrances and dyes. It is also very useful to keep individual samples for a certain period of time so that you can return to individual combinations later.
Preparation of the mold: The molds should be clean, dry and free from any impurities. They should be at least at room temperature, but heating them to approximately 45-50°C brings advantages in the form of easy removal of candles from the molds.
Pouring the wax: We recommend pouring the melted and heated wax, supplemented with the desired fragrances and colors, at a temperature of 65°C into preheated molds. The specific pouring temperature of the wax must be adapted to the room temperature and other individual conditions. However, the time during which the wax is kept at a higher temperature should be minimized – this will prevent the loss of the top notes of your fragrances as well as the formation of cracks and cavities during cooling.
Cooling the wax: After pouring the wax into the container with the wick, it must be left to cool down gradually. Rapid cooling can cause the formation of cracks and cavities. Leave the candle to stand for at least 24 hours before lighting it for the first time. If a crack or small cavity (the center sinks) forms on the surface of the candle, finish the candle by pouring a small amount of melted wax onto the surface or by heating the surface of the candle with a heat gun.
The wax is biodegradable and also suitable for vegans. No animal products are used in its production and no animal testing has been carried out. This wax is supplied in granular form.
