Product description

Licorice CO₂-to extract with MCT oil is a standardized plant extract obtained from the dried root of Glycyrrhiza uralensis (licorice) by supercritical carbon dioxide extraction with a small amount of ethanol. The extract is then diluted with coconut MCT oil to a precisely defined bioactive content. It has a brown colour, viscous consistency and a mild, sweetish taste typical of liquorice. Thanks to its isoflavanone content, it is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and soothing, while it does not contain glycyrrhizin - the substance responsible for the typical sweetness and potential undesirable effects. It is a CO₂-to (total extract) - a complete extract that contains the full spectrum of the root's lipophilic constituents including isoflavanones, coumarins, plant sterols and waxes.

Cosmetic use

In cosmetics, liquorice CO₂ extract is mainly used for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It contains the isoflavanones licoricidin and licorisoflavan A, which have been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria that cause tooth decay, halitosis and gingivitis. It is also suitable for the care of irritated, problematic or sensitive skin, where it improves regeneration and reduces inflammation. It is added to toothpastes, mouthwashes, balms, creams or ointments for its naturally soothing and protective action. Coconut MCT oil acts as a light carrier that improves the application and stability of the extract in the formulation, while enhancing the absorption of the active ingredients.

Safety and storage

For external use only. Store in a cool, dry and dark place, tightly closed and out of reach of children. Warm to 40 °C and mix before use. Do not apply directly to skin - use only as part of cosmetic formulations.

FAQ

What are the main active ingredients of liquorice CO₂ extract?

The extract contains at least 8.5% isoflavanones - mainly licoricidin and licorisoflavan A, which have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. It does not contain glycyrrhizin, making it gentle and safe even for sensitive skin.

What is liquorice most commonly used for in cosmetics?

It is mainly used in oral and skin cosmetics - in toothpastes, mouthwashes, balms and creams. It helps reduce inflammation, is antibacterial and promotes skin regeneration.

Does it contain glycyrrhizin extract and why is it important?

No, this extract does not contain glycyrrhizin - a sweet saponin compound naturally occurring in liquorice roots. Glycyrrhizin has a distinct sweet taste, but with prolonged or high use, it can affect the balance of sodium and potassium in the body. Its absence in this extract means that the product is gentle, stable and suitable for sensitive skin and oral hygiene.

What does "CO₂-to" mean?

The abbreviation CO₂-to stands for total extract - a complete CO₂ extract that includes the full spectrum of plant substances including isoflavanones, sterols and waxes. This type of extract is more nutritious and effective than "selective" (CO₂-se) extracts.
