An excellent addition to your cosmetic products and a raw material that you will also appreciate when making soap is sunflower oil rich in oleic acid. However, this is not the classic sunflower oil as you know it from normal cooking.

Sunflower oil with a high oleic acid content has at least 80 % oleic acid. Traditional sunflower oil, however, is at values of around 20 % oleic acid and contains a higher content of linolenic fatty acid represented in the lipids.

Sunflower oil with a high oleic acid content is produced by pressing from sunflower seeds that have been specially bred for a high oleic acid content. Since this fatty acid contains fewer double bonds than linolenic acid, this oil is less prone to oxidation than traditional sunflower oil. Therefore, sunflower oil rich in oleic acid will provide you with products that have longer stability and shelf life. Also thanks to this, this oil can be present in a higher proportion in soap making.

Its dosage in soap making depends on the composition of the other oils in the recipe as well as on the desired properties of the soap (hardness, foaming properties and similar). You can verify the overall proportion of the individual fatty acids and the expected properties of the soap, for example, using various soap calculators.

In soap making you will appreciate the increased oleic acid content, because it is precisely this fatty acid that contributes to the conditioning and emollient properties of the soap. At the same time, it gives the soap hardness, but you have to take into account that soaps with a higher content of sunflower oil rich in oleic acid will foam less.
