Product description

Essences obtained by CO2 extraction are some of the purest essences with a higher proportion of individual chemical components than those found in essential oils obtained by steam distillation, as they do not contain residual solvents, inorganic salts, heavy metals or bacteria capable of reproduction. Their use is the same as for essential oils, but in a much smaller proportion, as CO2 extract is stronger, of higher quality and has a significantly longer shelf life. In fact, plant extracts are not subject to thermal degradation in this extraction process, as is the case in the steam distillation process.

CO2 extraction makes it possible to create two types of extracts, called Selects and Totals, depending on the pressure.

CO2 extracts are the total extracts of a plant (obtained by high-pressure extraction), and thus contain all the components soluble in CO2, including waxes, resins, dyes. They are thus very similar to the plant itself, usually thick and pasty precisely because of the waxes, fats and resins contained, which come from the plant material itself.

Composition:
CO2 extract of calendula contains pentacyclic triterpene alcohols and triterpenediol monoesters, including 17-28% faradiol esters, esterified mainly with myristic and palmitic acids. Other constituents are sterols, <0.1% carotenes and cuticular waxes.

Calendula CO2 extract has a dark brown colour with a golden tinge and a waxy consistency. It is liquid at 40 °C and has a characteristic hay-like odour. Approximately 20 kg of flowers are needed to produce one kg of extract.

Use:
Faradiol esters have a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect. It is therefore recommended for the treatment of pain, inflammation, bruising, wound healing and for dry and sensitive skin. It is the most common ingredient in skin and sunscreen creams, after-sun preparations, lipsticks, shampoos. It is used for healing burns, wounds and eczema. It also has a relatively high concentration of phytosterols thus helping to protect the skin from harmful environmental stress.

0.1-0.3%
