Nowadays, when skincare is a common part of our daily routine, natural and homemade solutions are becoming increasingly popular. In this article we therefore focus on a simple way to make an oil-based facial serum with Q10 directly in the comfort of your home. Discover with us the steps to prepare your own oil-based facial serum with coenzyme Q10 and give your skin the care it deserves!
One of the sought-after and effective raw materials for the skin is coenzyme Q10. This effective antioxidant not only protects the skin from harmful free radicals, but also stimulates cell regeneration and increases their hydration. This is also why we have chosen it as the main active ingredient in the facial serum. Coenzyme Q10 is further supplemented with a CO2 extract of pomegranate, which helps to regenerate the skin even more intensively.
If you have not yet worked with some of the raw materials used to make the oil-based facial serum, or if you just want to learn more about them, you are in the right place. Below we will introduce the individual raw materials used in the production of the oil-based facial serum with Q10.
Safflower oil, also called carthamus oil or thistle oil, is rich in essential fatty acids such as linoleic acid and gamma-linolenic acid. These components are essential for skin health and have anti-inflammatory effects. In the cosmetic industry, safflower oil is often used in products intended for sensitive and acne-prone skin. Its ability to reduce inflammation and maintain the skin’s balance makes it popular also among people suffering from eczema or psoriasis.
An alternative is represented by other liquid vegetable oils.
Sesame oil is known for its high concentration of antioxidants and vitamins, which makes it ideal for skincare. Its light texture allows for rapid absorption and thus helps to hydrate the skin without a greasy feeling. However, if you have another favourite vegetable oil, do not hesitate to use it instead of sesame oil, or feel free to combine the oils.
Coenzyme Q10, also known as ubiquinone, is involved in the cellular energy production and protects cells from oxidative stress. In cosmetic products it plays an important role in combating skin ageing by increasing the production of collagen and elastin. It also helps to reduce the signs of photoageing and improves the overall structure of the skin.
If you leave coenzyme Q10 out of the serum, you will lose many of the mentioned benefits it provides to the skin.
Pomegranate extract is rich in strong antioxidants such as flavonoids and ellagic acid, which protect the skin from harmful free radicals. This extract is valued for its abilities in fighting skin ageing, improving its texture and toning it. Its regular use may help to minimise the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. An alternative is represented by other CO2 extracts or active substances suitable for application to the face and at the same time oil-soluble, but take into account their different effects on the skin.
Vitamin E, also known as tocopherol, is one of the most important antioxidants for the skin. Its main role is to protect cells from damage caused by free radicals and sunlight. In addition to its protective role, vitamin E also helps maintain elasticity and hydration of the skin, thereby preventing its premature ageing and improving its overall appearance.
An alternative is another version of vitamin E – tocopheryl acetate.
Vitamin E also slows down the oxidation of oils, so your serum will stay fresh longer. However, it is not a preservative. The oil-based facial serum does not contain water, and therefore the use of a preservative is not necessary; however, when handling the serum be careful not to let water enter the product, as this could lead to microbial spoilage.
Summer night is a fragrance oil with a gentle, relaxing aroma that has a positive effect on mental well-being. Its pleasant scent is often used in aromatherapy to relieve stress and anxiety. In cosmetic products, fragrance oils add a pleasant sensory experience and help to relax the mind after a demanding day.You can replace the Summer night fragrance oil with another fragrance oil of your choice.
Before using any raw materials to produce a cosmetic product, familiarise yourself thoroughly with their properties, the recommended dosage, storage conditions and safe handling. Each raw material may trigger an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals, therefore we recommend, before using the product, to check whether you are not allergic to any component of the raw materials or to the final product, for example by means of a patch test.
In the case of very sensitive or acne-prone skin, or if you have other skin and health problems, we recommend that you consult a medical professional before applying a new product to the skin, whether it is a homemade cosmetic product, a pure raw material or a commercially available product.
As mentioned, when experimenting with homemade recipes it is necessary to keep in mind that the final result can be influenced by many factors, such as humidity, temperature, quality of raw materials and their storage.
