WHAT IS OAT SILK?

Oat silk, also known as colloidal oat flour, is finely ground and sifted whole oat grain, including the bran, which contains the most natural active ingredients.

It is obtained from a special variety of oats with a high beta-glucan content, called Peppi, and is grown by selected farmers in Finland.

Oat silk is processed using a patented process that ensures:

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS AND THEIR BENEFITS

Avenanthramides

A group of 20-30 naturally occurring polyphenols found in oats (Avena sativa L.). Oat aventramides (700 ppm) have excellent anti-irritant and soothing properties for the skin. They reduce itching and redness and are therefore suitable for use in anti-eczema products and after-sun cosmetics.

• Strong antioxidant properties. Strong anti-inflammatory and antihistamine properties.
• Reducing redness of the skin. Soothes and relieves dry skin.

Avenacins (Saponins)

• Action: Anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory properties suitable for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD).
• Use: Cleansing properties on the skin, effective in sebum regulation.

Flavonoids

A group of natural substances from the group of polyphenols found in plants. They help protect the skin from UV rays, reduce redness, improve skin tone and texture, and reduce the signs of aging.

Simple and complex phenols

• Effect: Antioxidants, prevention of lipid peroxidation.
• Use: Anti-itch (antipruritic).

β-Glucan

Oat β-glucan is a key ingredient in oat products for cosmetic use. The higher the oat β-glucan content, the more effective your formulations will be in achieving desirable results such as moisturizing, reducing fine lines, improving skin elasticity and soothing irritation. Colloidal oat flour contains 6-8% oat β-glucan, which has a high moisturizing capacity. It has the same effects as hyaluronic acid, so the use of colloidal oat flour in formulations can replace the properties of hyaluronic acid.

• Effect: Immunostimulant.
• Activity: Reduces fine lines and wrinkles, has moisturizing properties.

Lipids and oils

Oat oil (content around 10%) is an excellent antioxidant and has soothing and nourishing effects, mainly due to its content of phospholipids, ceramides, vitamin E and other substances.

• Use: Strengthening the skin's protective barrier.

Starch

• Effect: Absorption and protective properties.
• Use: Forms a physical barrier.

Oat peptides

• Effect: Promote collagen and elastin formation by stimulating fibroblasts.
• Use: Balancing the pH of the skin, maintaining the integrity of the barrier.
