Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the packaging is designed under normal filling conditions and which is stated on the label. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is always slightly larger. The difference between them is the allowance for the dip tube and pump body, for expansion of the contents with temperature changes, and for safe screwing on without overflow. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

Which products is it suited for

The pump reliably dispenses liquid to medium-viscosity preparations: gels, liquid soaps, shampoos, lotions, light emulsions and oils. With very thick creams or products containing particles (scrubs, crystalline salt) the tube may clog or the pump may deliver an incomplete dose. Such textures should be tested in a single unit before filling a larger batch.

The plastic packaging is best suited to aqueous and emulsion formulations. For oil-based contents, preparations with a higher proportion of essential oils or with alcohol, we recommend verifying the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation. Some ingredients may over time soften or discolour the plastic, or seep through the pump seal. • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and pump, sanitise with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Flush the pump with several presses of clean water, then air, so no water remains in the tube.
• Light – the clear plastic does not protect the contents from light. Formulations sensitive to light (unstable active ingredients, certain natural pigments, oils prone to oxidation) should be stored away from direct sunlight, or choose packaging made from a dark material.
