Product description

The black glossy PET bottle with a mini trigger sprayer makes up a ready-to-use 200 ml set for thin liquids applied as a fine mist: tonics, hydrosols, face and body mists, hair sprays and room fresheners. The opaque black wall protects the contents from light, which you will appreciate with hydrosols and formulations containing ingredients sensitive to sunlight. The plastic bottle is light and unbreakable, so the set is also suitable for products you carry in a bag or keep on the edge of the bath.

The sprayer is black with a smooth collar, so together with the bottle it looks like a single piece. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics, so you do not need to buy a closure separately.

What it is suitable for

  • Face tonics and hydrosols – the sprayer disperses watery liquids into an even mist, the skin does not need to be wiped and the dose is always the same.
  • Body and hair mists – light water-based or water-alcohol formulations with solubilised essential oils.
  • Air and fabric fresheners – the opaque bottle hides the slight haze of the contents, which is common with solubilised fragrances.
  • Utility and workshop sprays – alcohol solutions for degreasing moulds or spraying the surface of soaps and candles, provided the contents do not attack the plastic.

Working with the sprayer

With each press, the mini trigger sprayer delivers approximately 0.2 ml of the contents. Liquids with a viscosity close to that of water are suitable. Thicker emulsions, gels or pure vegetable oils cannot be sprayed by the mechanism: the jet comes out intermittently or the nozzle stays clogged. For oil serums and thicker products, choose a different type of closure.

Before fitting, check that the dip tube reaches the bottom of the bottle. If it is longer, trim it so that it does not bend when the bottle is tilted and the sprayer draws up the contents down to the last millilitres. After screwing it on, simply press it several times to prime it until the tube fills.

Before the first filling, rinse the bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Moisture left in the tube would get into the product and dilute it.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is larger. The difference is a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the sprayer, which push part of the contents upwards once screwed on, and for the expansion of the liquid with temperature changes. Therefore, fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you filled to the neck, the contents would spill out when the sprayer is fitted.

Good to know

  • Food contact – only the bottle has a certificate for direct food contact. The sprayer does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic and technical products, not for food.
  • Essential oils and solvents – do not expose the bottle to aggressive chemicals. With a higher content of essential oils or solvents, first test a smaller amount and check whether the wall of the bottle and the nozzle soften or turn cloudy.
  • Temperature – fill the bottle only with cooled contents and protect it from heat and direct sunlight, otherwise the PET may deform.
  • Other closures – closures with the same neck finish as stated in the parameters and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
  • Reuse – after emptying, wash the bottle, rinse the sprayer with clean water and press it several times so that the tube is rinsed as well. Once dry, the set can be refilled.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the sprayer of PP, so unscrew them before disposal and place them in the plastic recycling.

Do not fill the sprayer with oils, thicker emulsions or liquids with solid particles. The mechanism will clog and the product will not dispense.

Frequently asked questions

Is the black PET bottle with a sprayer suitable for hydrosol?
Yes, hydrosols and tonics are among the most suitable contents for this set. A watery liquid is sprayed into a fine mist and the opaque black wall protects the hydrosol from light, which impairs its scent and stability. A hydrosol is a water-based product, so preserving the contents remains a matter of the formulation; the packaging does not replace it.
Can oil or an oil serum be filled into a mini trigger sprayer?
No, pure oils and oil serums are not sprayed correctly by a mini trigger sprayer. A thicker liquid comes out intermittently or clogs the nozzle. For oil products, a closure with a dropper or a pump is more suitable, and these can be chosen to fit the same neck finish.
Does the black bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, black opaque PET lets considerably less light through to the contents than clear glass or clear plastic. It is therefore suitable for formulations with ingredients sensitive to sunlight, for example hydrosols, aqueous solutions of vitamins or mists with plant extracts. The disadvantage is that you cannot see from the outside how much of the contents remains in the bottle.
Is the bottle and sprayer set approved for food contact?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for food contact. Only the bottle has a certificate for direct food contact; the sprayer does not have such a certificate. The set is declared as suitable for cosmetic products and technical use, for example for face mists, tonics or alcohol sprays.
How do I prepare the bottle and sprayer before the first filling?
Rinse both parts with clean water, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry thoroughly. Press the sprayer several times to remove any liquid residue from the tube and nozzle. Fill only with cooled contents up to the nominal volume, so that a reserve remains for the tube and the expansion of the liquid.
