Product description

Plastic bottle, white, black flip top, 200 ml

A ready-made combination of a white PET bottle with a nominal volume of 200 ml and a black flip top cap with a 24/410 neck finish. You only need to fill the bottle and start using it, with no need to look for a suitable cap. It suits rinse-off and leave-on products of liquid to medium-thick consistency: shampoos, shower gels, conditioners, body lotions, liquid soaps, and massage and body oils.

The white opaque wall limits the light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate with formulations containing vegetable oils, essential oils or more sensitive active ingredients. Plastic is light and does not break when dropped, which is why this format is often chosen for the shower and bathroom. The packaging material of both the bottle and the cap is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

How the set works

  • Dispensing by squeezing – the bottle wall is slightly flexible, the contents are pushed out through the opening in the cap, and you control the amount by how hard you squeeze.
  • One-handed opening – the flip top lid is opened with a thumb and snaps back shut, which is useful for products used with wet hands.
  • Closing – the cap screws onto the 24/410 thread, and once the lid has snapped shut it limits drying out and accidental leaking during normal use.
  • Appearance – a black cap on a white bottle looks like a finished package without any further modifications.

The flip top is not suitable for very thick creams and butters, as the product is difficult to squeeze through the small opening. For such formulations, a jar or a container with a wider neck is the usual choice.

Nominal volume and filling

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The total brim-full volume is larger and reaches up to the neck. The difference between them forms a reserve for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it were filled up to the neck, the contents would be pushed into the thread when the cap is screwed on, and the flip top would then seal less well.

Let heated emulsions cool to at least room temperature before filling. The packaging is intended for normal temperatures in the range of 5–30 °C, and hot contents do not belong in it.

Good to know

Before the first filling, we recommend washing the bottle and the cap, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and letting them dry completely. The same procedure applies to repeated use, as the packaging can be refilled after thorough cleaning.

The direct food contact certificate applies to the bottle only. The flip top cap does not have it, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. If you need packaging for homemade oils or syrups, pair the bottle with a closure that has a food-contact certificate.

Do not expose the bottle or the cap to aggressive chemicals. For contents with a high proportion of essential oils, pure solvents or strong cleaning mixtures, we recommend testing how the material behaves on a sample before you fill a larger quantity.

The bottle neck has a standard 24/410 thread. You can find closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you create your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation. The PET bottle and the PP cap are both recyclable plastics. Before recycling, unscrew the cap and separate the materials.

Frequently asked questions

Is a plastic bottle with a flip top suitable for shampoo or shower gel?
Yes, a 200 ml bottle with a flip top cap is a common packaging choice for shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps. The contents are dispensed through the opening in the lid by squeezing the bottle, and the lid can be opened and closed with one hand. You control the amount by how hard you squeeze, and for thinner products gentle pressure is enough.
Does a white PET bottle protect the contents from light?
The white opaque wall of the bottle limits the light reaching the contents, unlike clear packaging. With formulations containing vegetable and essential oils or sensitive active ingredients, this helps slow down changes caused by light. However, no packaging provides complete protection from light, so store the finished product out of direct sunlight.
Can I fill a flip top bottle with cream or body butter?
Thick cream and body butter are not suitable for a flip top, as they are difficult to squeeze through the small opening. The set is intended for liquid and medium-thick products, for example body lotions, conditioners, shampoos and oils. For thick formulations, a jar, a container or a bottle with a pump is recommended.
Can I use the 200 ml plastic bottle for food as well?
The set with the flip top cap is intended for cosmetics as a whole. The direct food contact certificate applies to the white PET bottle only, and the flip top cap does not have it. If you want to use the bottle for homemade oils or syrups, combine it with a closure that has a food-contact certificate.
How do I clean a plastic bottle with a flip top before reuse?
Wash the bottle and the cap with warm water and a cleaning product, rinse them, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and let them dry completely. Unscrew the cap and open the lid so that no water remains in the opening. Packaging prepared in this way can be refilled, for example with another batch of shampoo or body lotion.
Why is the plastic bottle not filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 200 ml, because the space above it serves as a reserve for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The total brim-full volume is larger and reaches up to the neck. If the bottle is filled up to the neck, the contents get into the thread when the cap is screwed on, and the lid then seals less well.
