If your skin is in need of hydration and nourishment, try a facial serum with minerals. Thanks to its sodium and zinc content, it helps improve the condition of skin exposed to weather or air pollution. At the same time, the Mineral Facial Serum requires no special tools to prepare, as you don't need to heat or emulsify anything.
Preparing a facial serum is already one of the more difficult things to do, but that doesn't mean it can't be mastered. The important thing is to keep an eye on the pH - measure it either with pH paper or a pH meter. Zinc PCA is sensitive to pH and will flake above pH 7.
Niacinamide is also a pH sensitive raw material, so lowering the pH too much is not a good idea - the niacinamide then breaks down and its effectiveness is reduced. A mineral serum always requires a pH test.
If lumps and clumps of hyaluronic acid appear after adding the aqueous mixture to the glycerine, this is normal. Hyaluronic acid needs several hours to fully hydrate, bind water to itself and turn the lumpy mixture into a nice gel-like consistency. Therefore, let the mineral serum sit, for example overnight in a tin foil covered container (against dust) and dirt) and then fill the bottles.
Below we will introduce the individual ingredients that make up the skin serum and their properties for the skin, as well as their importance in the recipe.
Rose water has been a well-known ingredient in beauty rituals for centuries. It has a soothing effect on the skin it is obtained by steam distillation of the Damascene rose. The Mineral Facial Serum also contains it because it is a great option to replace water in cosmetics.
Glycerin is also a moisturizing and hydrating ingredient for the Mineral Facial Serum. It is a glycerin and a mineral mineral with a high concentration of glycerin is a type of alcohol that is well soluble in water. It is combined with hyaluronic acid in the recipe because it facilitates hydration and dissolving - so the mineral serum gels more quickly and removes lumps.
Sodium PCA is another humectant in the recipe, it was also chosen for the skin serum with minerals because it is able to hydrate and bind moisture in the skin. Sodium is combined with pyrrolidone carboxylic acid - a derivative of glutamic acid, which is a common component of proteins, to help get minerals into the skin more efficiently.
As mentioned with sodium PCA, zinc PCA also contains pyrrolidone carboxylic acid. Zinc PCA is also suitable for skin with imperfections - it regulates sebum production and has antimicrobial effects, it is thus a multifunctional raw material for a skin serum with minerals.
Niacinamide, or vitamin B3, is not only good to take in the diet, but is also appreciated by the skin. It was chosen for the Mineral Facial Serum because it helps to even skin tone, improve the condition of pigment spots and generally regenerate skin damage caused by sun exposure.
Hyaluronic acid is a very popular and well-liked ingredient for its moisturizing properties. Its effects are often noticeable after the first application when it quickly hydrates the skin, making the skin feel softer to the touch. It is well tolerated by most skin types as it is a raw material that also occurs naturally in the skin or cartilage. That is why it is an essential ingredient for a mineral serum, it also ensures its gel-like consistency - so it also serves as a thickening agent.
If you don't have all the ingredients on hand, or if some of them don't suit you, you can make a mineral serum you can also vary your serum to a certain extent and substitute some of the ingredients for others.
It is not necessarily true that you have to use Damascene rose flower water in your face serum. There are a variety of floral waters or hydrolates to choose from. However, each floral water may vary slightly in pH, so the amount of citric acid to lower the pH in the recipe is only a guide - in reality, you can get by with less or more. However, if you don't want to use flower water for a mineral serum, simply substitute distilled water.
the role of citric acid in a facial serum is to lower the pH. You can also achieve pH reduction through other organic acids. Lactic acid is often used for this purpose. In this case, again, add any other acid gradually and check the pH as acids vary in strength.
Niacin, zinc PCA or sodium PCA are not a mandatory part of the serum, but without them the serum will be less effective. These substances are, of course, substitutable with other active substances. However, pay attention to the compatibility of the ingredients and the pH at which they should be used.
Euxyl PE 9010 is not the only preservative you can use for a mineral serum. You can also reach for other preservatives. Again, however, make sure that these preservatives are effective at the pH that has your product.
Facial serums are most commonly packaged in dropper bottles. This makes them easy to dispense and also minimise contact with the rest of the serum in the bottle, i.e. its contamination. Ideally, the vials will be made of dark glass or plastic to reduce the effect of UV radiation. Remember to also disinfect the containers before filling to ensure the product lasts as long as possible.
As mentioned, you can experiment with homemade recipes to achieve desired properties. However, many factors can affect the final result, such as humidity, temperature, quality of ingredients or storage.
Before using any raw material to make a cosmetic product, familiarise yourself with its properties, recommended dosage, storage conditions or safe handling. Any raw material may have the potential to cause an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals, so before using a product, we recommend that you find out if you suffer from an allergy to any of the raw materials or the overall product, e.g. by a skin test.
