Product description

Sea buckthorn pulp CO₂-to extract BIO is a nourishing oily extract obtained from the dried pulp of the fruits of Hippophae rhamnoides by supercritical carbon dioxide extraction. This modern, extremely gentle process is carried out without the use of chemical solvents and preserves the full spectrum of the bioactive components of sea buckthorn. The extract has an orange-red colour, a characteristic fruity aroma and an oily consistency. It is stabilised with a small amount of organic rosemary antioxidant to increase shelf life. It is a CO₂-to (total extract) – a full extract that contains all lipid components of sea buckthorn pulp, including fatty acids, sterols, tocopherols and carotenoids.

Type of extraction: Supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (CO₂)
Designation: CO₂-to – total extract (full extract with all lipid components)
D/E ratio: 8 – 14 kg of dried sea buckthorn pulp per 1 kg of extract
Composition: 99.9 % CO₂ extract from the pulp of sea buckthorn fruits (BIO), 0.1 % rosemary antioxidant (BIO)

Key benefits

  • High content of palmitoleic acid – a rare omega-7 fatty acid, a natural component of sebum, stimulates cell regeneration and supports skin healing.
  • Support of regeneration and healing – helps restore damaged epidermis, reduces scars and improves skin appearance.
  • Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action – protects the skin against oxidative stress, irritation and ageing.
  • Moisturising effect – unsaturated fatty acids increase skin moisture and elasticity.
  • Hair care – strengthens hair fibres and restores their shine, suitable for regenerating shampoos and masks.

Suitable for products such as

  • Anti-age and regenerating face creams
  • Body oils, serums and nourishing body milks
  • Products for dry, cracked and sensitive skin
  • Balms, ointments and anti-scar cosmetics
  • Sun care and after-sun products
  • Shampoos, conditioners and hair masks for restoring damaged hair

Use in formulation

  • Solubility: Oil phase
  • Recommended dosage: 1 – 10 %
  • Thermal stability: It is recommended to add during cooling (at a temperature below 40 °C)
  • Compatibility: Compatible with vegetable oils, waxes and CO₂ extracts
  • Handling: Before use, heat to approx. 40 °C and shake well to restore a homogeneous consistency.

Cosmetic use

In cosmetics, sea buckthorn extract is highly valued thanks to its content of the rarely occurring palmitoleic acid (omega-7), which is a natural component of the skin's lipid layer. It supports cell regeneration in the epidermis, accelerates the healing of minor wounds and helps to minimise scars. Other unsaturated fatty acids (especially linoleic and α-linolenic acid) improve skin hydration and strengthen its barrier function. Antioxidant components such as carotenoids, tocopherols and sterols slow down ageing and protect against damage caused by UV radiation. The extract is therefore ideal for anti-age products, nourishing care for dry or sensitive skin, products against skin imperfections, as well as for sun care and after-sun cosmetics. In hair care it regenerates hair fibres, strengthens them and improves shine, which is why it is used in shampoos, conditioners and masks intended for restoring damaged hair.

Safety and storage

For external use only. Store in a cool, dry and dark place, well closed and out of reach of children. Heat to 40 °C and shake before use. It is recommended to store in dark containers to preserve the stability of carotenoids and fatty acids.

FAQ

What are the main active substances in sea buckthorn pulp extract?

The extract contains 30 – 40 % palmitic acid, 22 – 40 % palmitoleic acid (omega-7) and 1 – 7 % insoluble substances such as carotenoids, tocopherols, sterols and alkanols. These substances provide its regenerating, antioxidant and moisturising effects.

For which skin type is sea buckthorn extract most suitable?

It is suitable for dry, sensitive, cracked or mature skin. It supports cell renewal, improves elasticity and helps prevent moisture loss.

Can it also be used in hair care cosmetics?

Yes, sea buckthorn pulp extract is used in products for restoring damaged hair. It strengthens hair fibres, improves shine and nourishes the scalp.

What does the designation “CO₂-to” mean?

The designation CO₂-to means total extract – a complete CO₂ extract that contains the full spectrum of the plant's lipid components, including waxes and antioxidants. This type of extract is more nourishing and more stable than “selective” (CO₂-se) extracts, which contain only volatile substances.
