You can also treat yourself to a luxurious body oil made from selected raw materials for caring for irritated and stressed skin, for example after shaving. The soothing body oil is rich in natural oils and plant extracts that treat the skin. In addition, its preparation is simple and anyone can manage it.
Below we will introduce the individual components of the body oil and their importance in skin care. Thanks to this, you will know the properties of the selected raw materials for the soothing body oil and you can adjust their ratio according to your requirements.
The main active substance that you will find in the soothing body oil is precisely Bisabolol Alfa Natural. It is an oily raw material obtained from the Candeia tree. It has anti-inflammatory and healing effects, which is the main reason why it was selected for the soothing body oil. In addition, it is characterised by antimicrobial and healing properties and is also suitable for sensitive skin.
The beautiful golden orange colour is obtained by the soothing body oil precisely thanks to the use of rosehip oil from seeds. This oil is valued for its high content of antioxidants and fatty acids. It is suitable for dry and irritated skin. In addition, it has a firming effect, so in addition to body oils it is also used in facial serums.
This luxurious oil has a long tradition of use in cosmetics. It is obtained from the kernels of the argan tree. For the soothing body oil it was chosen for its high content of vitamins, such as vitamin E, A and others, and also for its content of minerals. Argan oil is also sought after because it helps to improve the elasticity of the skin and the condition of stretch marks. Deodorised argan oil is deprived of fragrance, therefore the essential oil used can stand out better in the body oil.
Alkyl Benzoate is an oily liquid that is used as a partial replacement for oils in products, because it reduces the final feeling of greasiness. The resulting soothing body oil is thus lighter and is better absorbed by the skin. It is a mixture of esters and longer-chain alcohols. Alkyl Benzoate has emollient and antimicrobial properties.
By macerating calendula officinalis in sunflower oil, calendula macerate was created, which thus contains valuable substances extracted from this plant. In the form of an oil, calendula macerate is easy to work with, and at the same time helps to heal minor wounds and burns. That is also why it is suitable for cracked and irritated skin. In addition, it has antimicrobial and regenerating properties, which you will appreciate if you apply the soothing body oil to the skin after shaving.
Almond oil is used as a basic neutral oil in all kinds of cosmetics. It combines very well with other oils and is rich in vitamins E and A, which have antioxidant properties, and that is also why it was selected for the soothing body oil. It is absorbed very quickly by the skin, which is why it is also used for massages, and at the same time it helps to regenerate the skin.
Tocopherol, or in other words vitamin E, is a natural antioxidant which is also a common component of oils. However, its addition to oil-based products prolongs the freshness of the oils and delays their oxidation. That is also why the soothing body oil contains it. Its antioxidant properties manifest themselves in the fight against free radicals, which also arise as a result of UV radiation. It helps to treat irritated skin and to alleviate the condition of scars.
Lavender has been known for centuries for its soothing effects, which is why it is a suitable addition to the soothing body oil. In addition, the pleasant scent of lavender essential oil is a substitute for perfuming the product; moreover, lavender helps to relax and unwind, so it is suitable to apply the soothing body oil containing it in the evening.
If you do not have all the mentioned raw materials at hand or you wish to modify some of the ingredients, there is a fairly wide palette of substances from which you can choose. Apart from Bisabolol Alfa Natural, which is the active substance for the soothing body oil, the other raw materials are interchangeable. In the following lines we will describe in more detail which raw materials can be substituted or omitted.
In addition to rosehip or argan oil, you can also reach for other types of vegetable oils. The selection in this area is really large and there are no limits to your imagination. You can choose vegetable oils that suit your skin best, and at the same time you can also play with their ratios.
In addition to calendula macerate, other macerates of plants in oils are also available on the market. These include, for example, carrot macerate, which is known for its high content of beta-carotene and vitamins. It has a distinctive red-orange colour, so use it in lower doses, because it can stain the skinor clothing.
You do not have to limit yourself only to lavender essential oil. There is a large number of other essential oils to choose from. If this palette is still not enough for you, you can also experiment with fragrance oils, which bring various fruity or floral scents. It is important, however, to observe the recommended dosage; otherwise, skin irritation may occur. If you do not like perfumed products, you can omit the essential oil completely.
Vitamin E is a great raw material that makes it possible to extend the shelf life of oils, but it is not an essential component for the soothing body oil. If vitamin E is omitted, the period during which the oils are fresh (i.e. not oxidised) is partially shortened, so it is advisable to make the soothing body oil in smaller batches and use it up within a few weeks.
When choosing suitable packaging for the soothing body oil, reach for dark containers. Glass is ideal, as it can be cleaned well. You can choose containers with a dropper or ordinary bottles, or bottles with a pump. Make sure that the glass is coloured, i.e. brown, green and similar, in order to minimise exposure to UV radiation, which promotes the oxidation of oils. That is also why it is suitable to store the soothing body oil out of the reach of light and heat.
As mentioned, you can experiment with homemade recipes to achieve the desired properties. However, the final result can be influenced by many factors, such as humidity, temperature, quality of the raw materials or their storage.
Before you use any raw material for the production of a cosmetic product, familiarise yourself with its properties, recommended dosage, storage conditions and safe handling. Each raw material may have the potential to trigger an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals, so before using the product we recommend finding out whether you suffer from an allergy to any of the raw materials or to the overall product, for example by means of a skin test.
If you have very sensitive or very acne-prone skin, or have other skin and health problems, we recommend that you consult a medical professional before applying a new product to the skin, whether it is a homemade cosmetic product, a pure raw material, or a commercially available product.
