Product description

The Stabilo cotton wick represents a professional solution for making natural candles at home as well as in small-scale artisan production. The high-quality cotton structure ensures even burning and a stable flame, which makes it suitable for various candle blends and types of containers. The wick can be easily combined with several types of packaging and is ideal for creating design candles in glass or tin jars and containers.

Possible uses

  • Production of decorative candles in glass jars, containers and vessels
  • Soy, vegetable, paraffin and blended waxes according to your own formulation
  • Scented candles with fragrance oils and essential oils in designer bottles and jars
  • Body massage candles in cosmetic containers intended for this purpose
  • Multiple wicking of larger candles in wide containers for even burning

Packaging benefits

  • Material stability – high-quality cotton provides consistent burning and minimizes smoking with a suitably chosen combination of wax and container diameter.
  • Protection of the functional properties of the candle – a correctly selected cotton wick supports even wax melting and thus helps prevent tunneling and residual wax on the walls of the container.
  • Universal use – suitable for a wide range of candle projects in various types of packaging, from smaller glass jars to larger designer containers.
  • Easy adjustment – the wicks can be shortened as needed and adapted to the specific height and shape of the bottle, jar or container.

Combining with closures and dispensers

  • The cotton wick is intended primarily for use in candle containers, such as glass jars, tin containers or other heat-resistant packaging.
  • It is compatible with various types of containers into which the wax is poured directly without the need for closures or dispensers.
  • When selecting a suitable container, we recommend taking the diameter and shape into account so that the wick provides a stable and safe flame.

Combinations of packaging and components that are created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations, we always recommend carrying out your own compatibility test (wick behaviour in the wax, flame stability and burning in the specific container).

Technical parameters

All technical parameters of the packaging are listed in the attached Packaging Quality Certificate and in the product parameters.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

How to choose the correct length of cotton wick for my candle container?

The length of the wick should correspond to the height of the container with a slight allowance for fastening. We recommend first fixing the wick in the centre of the bottom of the container (for example using a special self-adhesive pad or a drop of wax) and leaving it longer. After the candle has completely cooled down and hardened, shorten the wick to approximately 5–7 mm above the wax surface. At each subsequent lighting of the candle, it is advisable to trim the wick so that the flame burns stably and without significant smoking.

Is it possible to use the cotton wick repeatedly in the same container?

The cotton wick is intended for a single pour into the candle; however, the container itself (glass jar, tin or bottle) can be reused, provided hygiene principles are observed. First remove wax residues from the container mechanically, then clean the container thoroughly and always disinfect it before refilling. For disinfection we recommend using the products IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based, so that the packaging is prepared for new safe use.

How to correctly recycle the container after the candle with this wick has burned out?

If you decide not to reuse the container after the candle has burned out, we recommend recycling it in accordance with the recommendation given in the parameters of the specific packaging on the Handymade.sk website. After mechanically removing any wax residues and metal or plastic components (for example the wick holder), the container is sorted according to its material, most often into the appropriate container for glass, metal or plastic. For specific materials, follow the recycling symbol and the instructions in the technical documentation of the packaging.

You offer many types of packaging – how do I find the right one for my product?

To make it easier to choose a suitable bottle, jar or container, you can use the extended filter located at the top of the page after clicking on the relevant packaging category. In the extended filter, you can clearly set parameters such as neck type, size, colour and material, thanks to which you will quickly find packaging that matches your formulation, design and method of use. You can combine the filter freely and adjust the results as needed.

What should you pay attention to when testing the cotton wick in a new wax or container?

For each new combination of wax, fragrance and container, we recommend creating a test candle. Observe the burning rate, flame size, width of the melted wax layer and any smoking. It is important that the wax melts evenly up to the walls of the container without excessive overheating. If the flame is too strong or the candle smokes, it may be necessary to choose a different wick size or adjust the composition of the wax. Always carry out the test burn on a non-flammable surface and do not leave the candle unattended.
