Wooden wick, .02 blue, 12.7 mmDrevený knôt, .02 modrý, 12,7 mm ZASOBAProduct description
The blue wooden wick is a flat single-ply wick designed for making container candles. Thanks to its blue colour, it also serves as a decorative element in the candle. It is supplied as a complete set with a metal sustainer that holds it upright at the bottom of the container.
The wick is made from certified wood. The manufacturer describes it as natural, allergen-free, and biodegradable.
Key features
- Single ply – the wick consists of one flat strip of wood.
- Thickness .02 – a manufacturer designation; a higher number indicates a thicker ply.
- Blue colour – a coloured wooden wick; the part above the wax surface is visible in the candle.
- Sustainer included – a round metal sustainer for flat wooden wicks keeps the wick in an upright position.
Use in candle making
Insert the wick into the sustainer slot and secure the sustainer to the centre of the container bottom, for example with an adhesive sticker or a drop of melted wax. Pour the wax only after securing, so the wick does not shift during pouring. Once the wax has set, trim the wick to the required height above the surface.
Before each subsequent lighting, remove the charred part of the wick. The candle will light more easily and burn more evenly.
On the first burn, let the candle burn until the entire surface has melted. This prevents tunnelling in the centre.
Choosing the right wick size
Wick suitability depends on the container diameter, wax type, fragrance oil content, and dye. The same wick behaves differently in different waxes, and a higher proportion of fragrance or dye also affects burning.
Verify every combination of container, wax, and fragrance with a test burn. The wick is correctly chosen when the melt pool reaches the edge of the container, the flame is calm, and there is no smoke.
If the wax only melts in the centre and remains solid near the walls, the wick is too small for the given diameter. A wider wick or a thicker ply will help. A tall flame and smoke, on the other hand, indicate a wick that is too large.
