The wick is made from certified wood. The manufacturer describes it as natural, allergen-free and biodegradable. The metal sustainer holds the wick perpendicular to the bottom of the container so it does not tilt or shift during wax pouring.

Use in candle making

The wick is inserted into the metal sustainer and the sustainer is secured to the centre of the container bottom with wick glue or an adhesive tab. Wax is then poured at the temperature recommended for the specific wax type. Once fully set, the wick is trimmed so that only a few millimetres remain above the wax surface; the exact height is determined by a test burn.

For the first light, we recommend letting the candle burn long enough for the entire top layer of wax to melt all the way to the container wall. Wood draws wax more slowly than cotton, so the initial burn may take somewhat longer. The wick is lit across the full width of the slat, not at a single point.

Good to know

• Size selection – the width and thickness of the slat affect burn intensity. Whether this size is right for your container can only be determined by testing with the specific wax and fragrance.
• A wick that is too long will soot – if the flame is too high or the candle begins to soot, the wick must be trimmed before the next light. The charred end of the slat is snapped off with pliers or scissors.
• A wick that goes out – if the flame weakens or extinguishes, the wick is usually too long or the melt pool is too deep above the slat. Trimming the wick and pouring off excess liquid wax helps.
• Intended use – both the wick and the sustainer are intended for candle making. The set is not declared as a material for contact with cosmetics or food.
• Metal sustainer – after the candle has burned down, the sustainer remains on the bottom of the container and can be removed from the wax; the wooden slat is single-use.
