Wooden wick, .03 Booster crackling, 12.7 mmDrevený knôt, .03 Booster praskajúci, 12,7 mm ZASOBAProduct description
The Booster crackling wooden wick with a width of 12.7 mm is a flat wick for container candles. During burning it produces a soft crackling sound reminiscent of a fireplace. It comes as a complete set with a metal stand, so you simply place it on the bottom of the container and pour the wax.
Compared to a simple wooden wick, it features an additional reinforcing layer. This is what gives the series its Booster name.
What makes the wick interesting
- Crackling during burning – the wick belongs to the crackling series. Sound intensity varies between formulations and depends on the wax, fragrance load, and dye.
- Reinforcing layer (booster) – the wick consists not of a single lamella alone, but of a lamella supplemented by a reinforcing layer.
- Wood from certified sources – the manufacturer states it is a natural, biodegradable material free of allergens.
- Stand included – a metal stand with a circular base keeps the wick upright on the bottom of the container, so no support is needed during pouring.
Use in candle making
The wick is designed for container candles. It is inserted into the stand and the stand is attached to the centre of the bottom of a clean, dry container. Only then is the wax poured. The flat wick stays upright in the stand, so no support is needed during pouring.
The wick length is adjusted to the height of the container. The wick can be trimmed with scissors or wick trimmers. Once the candle has set, it is trimmed above the wax surface and the height is fine-tuned based on flame behaviour.
Always verify the wick width by test burning in the specific container with the specific wax. If the melt pool does not reach the edge of the container, the wick is too narrow for that diameter. If the flame smokes or is too tall, the wick is too wide or too long.
Good to know
Wooden wicks are sensitive to length. A wick that is too long will smoke; one that is too short will drown in the melted wax and extinguish. Before each subsequent lighting, the charred portion should therefore be snapped off with fingers or trimmed with wick trimmers so that clean wood remains.
The first burn should last until the entire wax surface has melted to the edge of the container. Otherwise, a tunnel forms around the wick and the wick becomes difficult to keep lit in subsequent burns.
The formulation also affects burning. A high fragrance oil content, dyes, and additives can dampen both the flame and the crackling. When changing the wax, fragrance, or container, it is recommended to repeat the burn test.
Wood is a natural material, so minor differences in grain pattern and shade between individual pieces are normal.
