The wooden Booster wick with a crackling effect is designed for container candles, where it should create not only a flame but also gentle crackling reminiscent of a fireplace fire. The flat wooden strip is complemented by a reinforcing layer, which gave the series its name. It is supplied as a complete set with a metal sustainer that holds the wick perpendicular to the bottom of the container.

The wick is made from certified wood. The manufacturer describes it as natural, allergen-free and biodegradable.

Use in candle making

The process is straightforward. The strip is inserted into the sustainer, the sustainer is secured to the centre of a dry and clean container bottom, and the wax is poured around the wick. The sustainer keeps the wick perpendicular, so it does not need to be centred further during pouring.

Once the wax has set, trim the wick with scissors or wick trimmers to the level of the wax surface.

Before each subsequent lighting, it is worth removing the charred part of the wick so that clean wood burns.

Good to know

The right wick width depends on the container diameter, wax type and the amount of fragrance oil and dye. The same strip may burn adequately in one formula and too strongly or weakly in another. Before producing a larger batch, it is therefore advisable to carry out a test burn with the specific container and formula.

During the test, observe the flame height, soot formation and whether the wax surface melts all the way to the edge of the container.

Fragrance oils and dyes change the way a candle burns. Test burning should therefore be repeated whenever the formula or container changes.
