Wooden wick – booster, crackling is a special component intended for candles, which serves as a flame enhancer and at the same time creates a characteristic, pleasant crackling effect. Thanks to precise manufacturing from high-quality wood, it helps stabilize burning, supports even melting of the wax and contributes to the professional appearance and functionality of your candles in glass containers, jars or other decorative packaging.
The crackling wooden booster is used in combination with candle containers – for example with glass bottles, jars or pots – into which the wax is poured. It is advisable to choose packaging with sufficient width for safe burning and a comfortable flame size. When selecting containers, you can use the range of glass and other packaging in the candle components category on Handymade.sk, bearing in mind that it is always important to test the specific combination of wick, wax and container.
The combinations of packaging and closures that are created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend performing your own compatibility test (sealing, dosing and behaviour of the packaging in contact with the specific formulation).

When choosing the container, pay particular attention to the internal diameter of the packaging and the type of wax you are working with. A stable glass vial, jar or pot with a sufficient diameter is suitable so that the flame does not overheat the walls and the wax melts evenly. It is recommended to produce several test candles in different containers and thus verify flame size, burn rate and fragrance release before starting final production.
Wooden boosters are commonly used with several types of waxes (for example soy, rapeseed, coconut or blends with paraffin), however burning behaviour depends on the specific formulation, added fragrance oils and the diameter of the container. Therefore it is always essential to perform your own burn tests for each wax type, fragrance concentration and specific container, in order to achieve optimal flame stability and product safety.
The wooden booster is intended primarily for single use in a specific candle. With repeated use, its shape, impregnation and burning stability could be compromised, which would affect flame safety and quality. If you decide to reuse the packaging – vial, jar or pot – we recommend that after the candle has burned out you carefully clean it of wax residues, mechanically remove the old wick and, before refilling, clean and disinfect the packaging with a suitable alcohol, for example with the products IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based, while following the safety instructions.
After the candle has burned out, first allow the container to cool completely. Gently remove the remaining wax mechanically and dispose of the wooden booster in mixed municipal waste. The packaging itself – glass vial, jar or pot – can, after cleaning, be placed in the appropriate separated collection stream (for example glass), according to the information in the parameter table for the specific product. If you do not plan to reuse the container materials, it is advisable to hand them over for recycling according to local rules and according to the recommendations given for the specific packaging type on Handymade.sk.
