100× Wooden wick, .04 Booster crackling, 9.5 mm, shortDrevený knôt, .04 Booster praskajúci 9,5 mm krátky ZASOBAProduct description
The Booster series wooden wick is a flat crackling wick for container candles. When burning, it produces a wide flame and a gentle crackling sound reminiscent of a fireplace. It comes as a complete set of wick and metal sustainer: the sustainer holds the wick upright on the bottom of the container, so it stays in place when pouring wax.
The Booster designation means the wick has a booster layer. The short version is suitable for lower glasses and jars. The pack contains 100 pieces, enough for repeated production of the same candle.
Key features
- Crackling sound – its intensity depends on the wax, the amount of fragrance and the length of wick above the surface.
- Wide flame – the flat wick melts wax across a wider area, helping to create an even melt pool and release fragrance.
- Booster layer – distinguishes the Booster series from a plain flat wooden wick.
- Sustainer included – the wick slides into the metal sustainer and is placed on the bottom of the container.
- Wood from certified sources – the manufacturer states that the wicks are natural, free from allergens and biodegradable.
How to work with the wick
Slide the wick into the slot of the sustainer and attach the sustainer to the centre of the bottom of a dry, clean container, preferably with an adhesive sticker or a drop of melted wax. Pour the wax slowly away from the wick. With taller containers, it is advisable to check the wick position while the wax sets.
Once the wax has set, trim the wick so that only a short end protrudes above the surface. The wood can be snapped off with wick trimmers or small cutting pliers. A wick that is too long burns with a high flame and smokes; one that is too short will drown in the wax.
Before each subsequent lighting, we recommend snapping off the charred part of the wick. A charred tip is a common reason why a wooden wick refuses to relight after the first burn.
Choosing the width and testing
The wick width determines whether the wax melts all the way to the edge of the container. The right choice depends on the container diameter, wax type, amount of fragrance oil and dye, so it cannot be determined from a table alone.
Every new combination of container, wax and fragrance should be verified with a test burn. Check whether the melt pool reaches the edges, whether the flame is not too high and whether the container does not overheat.
If the wax melts only in the centre and tunnelling occurs, the wick is too narrow for the container. If the flame smokes and the melt pool becomes deep after a short time, the wick is too wide or too long.
Good to know
- Natural material – individual wicks may vary slightly in grain pattern and crackling intensity.
- Fragrance and dye – a high proportion of either can dampen combustion. Fragrance dosage should follow the recommendation for the specific wax.
- Container candles – the wick with sustainer is designed to be secured to the bottom of a container.
