Wooden wick, .04 Booster crackling, 9.5 mm

The Booster Crackling Wood Wick with a width of 9.5 mm is a flat wooden wick for container candles. When burning, it produces a gentle crackling sound, which is why wood wicks are often chosen over cotton ones. It comes complete with a metal sustainer that holds it upright on the bottom of the container.

The Booster series features an additional reinforcing layer of wood on the main tab. The .04 designation indicates the thickness of the tab.

Use in candle making

The wick is designed for container-poured candles. The process is straightforward: slide the wick into the sustainer and secure the sustainer to the centre of the container bottom — for example with an adhesive dot or a drop of wax — then pour the wax.

Once the wax has set, trim the wick to suit the height of the container so that only a short end extends above the surface. Length can be adjusted with scissors or wick trimmers.

Good to know

Wick width is selected based on the container diameter and wax type. The amount of fragrance oil and any colourant also affect the result, so suitability should always be confirmed by a test burn of the finished candle.

During the test, check whether the wax melts all the way to the edge of the container, whether the flame is not too high, and whether the container does not overheat. If unmelted wax remains along the walls, the wick is too narrow for that container. If the flame is large and restless, it is too wide.
