Product description

Activated charcoal is a fine black powder obtained by carbonization and subsequent activation of plant materials, most often coconut shells or hardwood. This process creates an extremely porous structure that gives it the ability to bind dirt, toxins and excess sebum. It is used in cosmetics for its cleansing, detoxifying and absorbing properties, especially for oily, problematic and acne-prone skin.

Due to its high surface area, activated charcoal is a popular ingredient in facial masks, cleansing products and soaps. In addition to absorbing impurities, it also contributes to a gentle exfoliating effect and leaves the skin fresh and clean without excessive dryness.

FAQ

Does activated charcoal colour cosmetic products?
Yes, it gives them a distinctive black to grey colour, which can be an attractive design element, especially in soaps and masks.

Can activated charcoal dry the skin?
Charcoal alone is not drying, but due to its strong absorption capacity, it is recommended to use it in combination with moisturising and nourishing ingredients.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
For sensitive skin, a lower concentration (up to 0.5%) and a tolerance test are recommended as its exfoliating effect may be more intense.
