Aluminium Bottle, Black Pump, 50 ml

The aluminium bottle with black pump dispenser, 50 ml, is a ready-made packaging and closure set for cosmetic preparations dispensed in measured doses without finger contact with the contents. The silver aluminium bottle with a nominal volume of 50 ml is paired with a black plastic pump dispenser with a 24/410 neck finish. Aluminium protects the contents from light, the bottle is lightweight and shatter-proof, making it well suited for travel, the bathroom, and the beauty salon.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. A certificate for direct food contact applies to the plastic pump dispenser only; the bottle does not hold this certification, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic use.

What products is it suitable for

The pump works best with contents of liquid to medium consistency: body lotions, light to medium creams, facial serums, liquid hand soaps, massage and body oils, cleansing oils, and hair serums. Very thick creams and butters are difficult for the pump to draw up and the tube tends to clog; for such formulations a jar or tube is more suitable. Conversely, very thin, watery contents (tonics, hydrolats) are better dispensed with a spray pump, as this dispenser releases them in a larger single dose than is practical for a toner.

The 50 ml volume is practical for facial products, samples, travel sizes, and preparations dispensed in small quantities that will be used up before the contents can degrade.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the packaging is designed for standard filling and which is stated on the label. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity of the bottle up to the neck and is always greater. The difference is the allowance for the dip tube and the body of the pump, which occupy some of the space once fitted, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Overfilling causes the contents to leak from the neck when the pump is screwed on.

Good to know

• Preparation before filling – rinse the bottle and pump before first use, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in the tube or bottle may dilute the first dose and reduce the microbiological stability of the contents.

• Temperature during filling – aluminium conducts heat; the bottle warms up quickly on the outside when filled with warm contents. Fill emulsions only after they have cooled to room temperature, which also reduces the risk of moisture condensing under the pump.
• Reuse – the bottle and pump can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. Flush the tube with warm water and detergent and pump it through several times. When switching the contents from an oil to an emulsion, pump the dispenser clean first, as residual oil could impair the stability of the emulsion.
• Recycling – the bottle is made of aluminium, the pump of polypropylene. Before disposal, separate the two parts and sort each according to its material.
