Product description

The aluminium bottle with a white mini trigger sprayer is a ready-to-use set for filling with liquid cosmetic spray products. The opaque metal packaging protects the contents from light, so it is particularly suitable for toners, hydrosols, body and hair sprays, and fresheners with essential oils, where light speeds up the loss of fragrance and effectiveness. The bottle has a nominal volume of 225 ml, and the white sprayer with a smooth collar serves as both its closure and its dispenser.

Compared with glass, aluminium is lighter and does not break when dropped, so the set is often chosen for products that are carried in a bag, taken on trips or kept in the bathroom. Both parts have a 24/410 neck finish and together form packaging that is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set is not intended for contact with food. Handymade issues an EU declaration of conformity for the packaging.

What the set is suitable for

  • Face and body toners – aqueous solutions and hydrosols with active ingredients, applied by spraying directly onto the skin.
  • Hair sprays – light conditioning or styling sprays without an oil base, or with a solubilised oil.
  • Air fresheners and fabric sprays – alcohol-based or water-alcohol blends with a fragrance composition or essential oils, where the dark packaging slows down the evaporation of the fragrance.
  • Alcohol-based sprays – eau de parfum, hair mists and other thin solutions based on ethanol.
  • After-sun sprays and refreshing mists – light water-based formulations for quickly cooling and moisturising the skin.

The mini trigger sprayer is designed for thin, water-like liquids. Thick emulsions, gels and pure oils will either not pass through it or will quickly clog the nozzle. A pump is more suitable for those.

Filling and dispensing

The nominal volume of 225 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brim-full volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference leaves room for the sprayer’s dip tube, which is immersed in the contents once the sprayer is screwed on, and for the expansion of the liquid when the temperature changes.

Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you fill it up to the neck, the contents will be pushed out through the thread when the sprayer is fitted, and the closure will then leak.

With one press, the sprayer releases approximately 0.2 ml of liquid as a fine mist. When using it for the first time, press it several times until the dip tube fills and the spray starts to atomise evenly. The dip tube reaches right to the bottom of the bottle, so almost the entire contents can be sprayed out.

Good to know

Before the first filling, rinse the bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Pump alcohol through the sprayer and then clean water, so that any production residues are removed from the dip tube and nozzle. The same procedure is also recommended when reusing the set between two fills.

Aluminium is a metal, and how it behaves with a particular formulation depends on the composition of the contents. For aqueous, acidic or alkaline products, we recommend making a test fill before larger production and monitoring any change in colour, fragrance and the condition of the inner surface of the bottle.

Let the liquid cool down before filling. It is advisable to check the tightness of the pump and the quality of the spray regularly, especially with every new formulation.

The aluminium bottle belongs in metal recycling and the polypropylene sprayer in plastics recycling. Before disposal, unscrew both parts and rinse them.

Frequently asked questions

Does the aluminium bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the aluminium bottle is opaque and no light reaches the contents through it. For sprays with essential oils, hydrosols and toners with light-sensitive active ingredients, this is an advantage over clear glass or PET, because light does not speed up changes in fragrance or the breakdown of ingredients. However, the metal does not protect against heat, so the bottle should not be left in the sun.
Can the aluminium bottle with a sprayer be used for an oil spray?
The set is not suitable for pure oil. The mini trigger sprayer is designed for thin liquids, and a thicker oil comes out of it as a stream or clogs the nozzle. If you want a spray with an oil component, the oil needs to be solubilised into a water or alcohol phase so that the mixture stays as fluid as water. We recommend testing how your particular formulation behaves.
How many millilitres actually fit into the 225 ml aluminium bottle?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 225 ml. The physical volume up to the brim is larger and you can find it in the parameters, but this space serves as a reserve for the sprayer’s immersed dip tube and for the expansion of the contents. If you fill to the brim, the liquid is pushed out when the closure is screwed on and the packaging leaks.
Is the aluminium bottle with a sprayer suitable for alcohol-based sprays?
Yes, thin ethanol-based solutions are dispensed through the mini trigger sprayer without any problems, and the opaque bottle also slows down the loss of fragrance. With every new formulation, we recommend verifying the tightness and behaviour of the packaging with a test fill and monitoring the spray quality regularly.
How do I clean the aluminium bottle and sprayer before reusing them?
Rinse the bottle with warm water, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to air-dry upside down. Pump alcohol through the sprayer first, then clean water, and leave the dip tube and nozzle to dry so that no residues of the previous fill settle in them. Exposing them to high heat or washing them in a dishwasher is not recommended, as the plastic parts of the pump could become deformed.
Which closures can be fitted to the 225 ml aluminium bottle?
The bottle has a 24/410 neck finish, so any closure with the same neck type fits it. The mini trigger sprayer in this set is one option; in the Handymade range you will also find caps, pumps and other closures with a 24/410 neck, as well as ready-made combinations. If you are making your own combination, we recommend verifying the tightness and dispensing with your particular formulation.
