Aluminium candle tin with clear lid, 115 ml

The aluminium tin with a transparent lid is designed primarily for candles poured directly into the container. The metal body withstands the heat of molten wax and a flame, will not break, and is lightweight. It is therefore suitable for travel candles, gift sets, and smaller production runs for sale. The transparent lid shows the colour and surface of the candle without opening, and once cooled it protects the wax from dust and fragrance evaporation.

With a nominal volume of 115 ml, it falls among the smaller candle formats for a single wick. The tin is supplied in cosmetic grade quality, so it is also used for anhydrous cosmetic products: balms, body butters, solid perfumes, and massage candles.

What the tin is suitable for

• Candles made from soy, rapeseed, coconut, or beeswax – the opaque body conceals wax shrinkage marks along the walls that are often visible in glass.
• Massage candles – the low, wide shape makes it easy to scoop the melted blend.
• Balms and body butters – the wide opening allows comfortable finger-scooping even with thick and firm textures.
• Solid perfumes and beard or hair waxes – aluminium is light-proof, so the contents are protected on all sides except the lid.

This type of packaging is not suitable for thin, water-based, or alcohol-based products, as it is not designed to hold liquid contents.

Candle filling and production

The wick is secured in the centre of the base before pouring and kept upright during setting with a centering tool. Aluminium conducts heat rapidly, so the wax near the walls sets before the centre. With some waxes this leads to a sunken centre or uneven surface. Pouring at a lower temperature, slightly preheating the tins, and allowing slow cooling away from draughts all help.

Wick size should be verified by a test burn for the specific wax, fragrance, and dye. A correctly chosen wick melts the surface right to the edge of the tin without tunnelling or producing an excessively high flame.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume the tin is intended to be filled to under normal use. Total volume to the rim is the physical capacity up to the upper edge and is slightly larger. The difference serves as a reserve for the lid, a protruding wick, and the expansion of warm contents. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the rim.

Good to know

• Preparation before filling – wash or wipe the tin, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow it to dry completely. This step is essential for cosmetic products; for candles it improves wax adhesion and wick-tab adhesion.
• Lid and fragrances – the plastic lid may turn opaque with prolonged contact with concentrated essential oils or fragrance oils. Leave a gap between the product surface and the lid.
• Labelling – the label adheres to a degreased, dry surface; dimensions needed for label design are listed in the product parameters. Candle safety labelling is usually placed on the base.
• Careful handling – the thin aluminium can dent with rough handling.
• Recycling – the aluminium body goes into sorted metal collection, the lid into plastics.
