Use in formulation

• Shea butter is miscible with vegetable oils, waxes, esters and other vegetable butters.
• It is compatible with the oil phase of emulsions as well as anhydrous formulations.
• Most often it is incorporated into the oil phase, where it affects the nourishing power and the final consistency of the product.
• During production it is recommended to heat only gently so as not to unnecessarily alter the natural character of the raw material.
• In richer products it can form a significant part of the formula; in lighter emulsions it is combined with liquid oils for a softer skin feel.
• When perfuming, it is necessary to take into account its strong natural scent, especially if you are preparing gently perfumed products.
• To improve slip and reduce a heavier skin feel it is often combined with lighter oils or drier esters.

Physical properties

• This is a semi-solid to solid vegetable butter, which gradually melts on contact with the skin.
• The colour is naturally creamy to pale yellow, and may differ slightly between batches.
• It has a strong, natural scent typical of unrefined shea butter.
• It affects the firmness, texture and occlusive character of the finished formulation.
