Yes, the aluminium jar is, thanks to the solid metal construction and the screw lid, also suitable for carrying in a handbag or travel bag. However, we recommend not overfilling the container, levelling the product below the edge of the thread and testing the finished jar in the home environment on first use, so that you can make sure that the sealing is fully satisfactory for your specific formulation.

The aluminium jar can be reused if proper hygiene principles are observed. Before each new filling, the packaging must be thoroughly cleaned and subsequently disinfected with a suitable alcohol, for example with IPA or ethanol products available on Handymade. In the range you will find, for example, IPA 99% isopropyl alcohol and Ethanol 96% denatured, plant‑based. Only after the inner surface has completely dried is the jar ready for further safe use.

First mechanically remove the residues of the original product and wash the jar in warm water with a suitable cleaning agent. After washing, rinse it thoroughly, dry it and disinfect the inner part as well as the threads with alcohol (e.g. IPA or ethanol in cosmetic grade). Allow the disinfectant to evaporate so that the surface is completely dry. A container prepared in this way is suitable for new filling, while for very different types of formulations (e.g. change from a coloured balm to a colourless product) it is advisable to carry out a trial filling to rule out residues of fragrances or colourants.

If you decide not to use the jar any further, we recommend recycling it in accordance with local waste‑sorting rules. After removing product residues and basic cleaning, the aluminium packaging can usually be placed in the collection of metal packaging (metal waste / metals according to the local sorting system). For recycling it is ideal to put both the jar and the lid into the metal container so that the material can be processed again and the environmental burden is reduced.

Aluminium jars intended for cosmetic use are designed to be suitable for common balms, creams and ointments. For recipes containing distinctly acidic, alkaline or otherwise atypical active components, we recommend first preparing a small test amount which you leave in the jar for a certain time and then checking for any changes in the appearance of the inner surface, or in the smell or colour of the product. Such a test will help you verify the long‑term compatibility of the specific formulation with the packaging.
