Product description

The amber glass medicine bottle with a volume of 10 ml is supplied with a white matte dropper, so it is ready to use once filled. The set is intended for small quantities of cosmetics that are dispensed drop by drop: facial oil serums, essential oil blends, perfume oils, cuticle oils or test samples of larger formulations. Amber glass protects the contents from light, which you will appreciate with vegetable and essential oils, as light speeds up their ageing.

The dropper consists of a white matte cap, a silicone bulb and a glass tube. The length of the dropper matches the height of this bottle. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Oil serums and facial oils – drop dispensing lets you measure exactly as much as the skin needs, without spilling.
  • Essential oil blends – dark glass protects the aromatic components from light and the dropper makes it easier to dose into a diffuser or carrier oil.
  • Perfume oils and fragrance concentrates – the small volume matches the quantity that is usually made for a single use or as a test batch.
  • Samples and test formulations – when you need to portion out a serum or oil for testing, 10 ml is enough for several days of use.
  • Concentrated active ingredients – oil extracts, vitamin E or other ingredients that are added to a formulation drop by drop.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume of the bottle is 10 ml. This is the quantity the packaging is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume listed in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between the two values leaves room for the dropper tube, which displaces part of the contents when screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. For this reason, fill only to the nominal volume, never to the brim.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based product reduces its stability.

The bottle is best filled with a small funnel or a syringe. With thicker oil serums, let the filling settle for a moment before screwing on the dropper, so that the air can escape and the tube can be inserted without pushing the contents out over the thread.

Dropper and dispensing

The dropper is screwed onto the neck of the bottle in the same way as a standard cap. To dispense, squeeze the bulb, draw the contents into the tube and then release them drop by drop. The drop size depends on the viscosity of the filling: light oils and water-based serums form smaller drops, thick oils larger ones. If you need an exact quantity in a formulation, we recommend weighing the drops of a given product once and then working with that value.

Closures with the same thread type as listed in the parameters, and other ready-made combinations of bottle and closure, can be found in the Handymade range. If you combine them yourself, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Good to know

Glass and heat. The bottle withstands normal temperatures during filling, but it should not be exposed to sudden thermal shock. Let hot contents cool before filling and do not pour them straight from a water bath into cold glass.

Dropper and contents. The silicone bulb and the plastic parts of the dropper come into contact with the filling. With blends containing a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking how the dropper behaves in the finished product. With common vegetable oils, oil serums and water-based serums with a low alcohol content, no problems are expected.

Reuse. The bottle and the dropper can be used again after thorough washing and disinfection. Rinse the dropper tube with ethanol, squeeze the bulb several times in clean water and let the whole dropper dry disassembled.

Food contact. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The dropper does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

Recycling. The glass bottle belongs in glass recycling. The dropper consists of several materials, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.

Do not fill the bottle to the brim. Once the dropper is screwed on, the contents would be pushed out over the thread and the dropper would not seal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 10 ml amber glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass attenuates both visible and UV light, which speeds up the oxidation of oils and the loss of fragrance in essential oils. The contents therefore stay stable for longer than in clear glass. Even so, store the bottle out of direct sunlight, because dark glass weakens light but does not remove it completely.
How much fits into the 10 ml glass bottle with dropper?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 10 ml. The brimful volume is higher and serves as room for the dropper tube and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. If you filled the bottle up to the neck, the dropper would push the contents out over the thread when screwed in and the packaging would not seal.
Is the dropper on the 10 ml glass bottle suitable for essential oils?
For common blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, yes. With undiluted essential oils or blends with a high proportion of solvents, we recommend checking whether the silicone bulb and the plastic parts of the dropper tolerate long-term contact with the filling. The glass tube and the glass of the bottle are resistant to essential oils.
Can the 10 ml glass bottle with dropper be reused?
Yes, the bottle and the dropper can be used again after washing and disinfection. Wash the glass in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse it and disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Take the dropper apart, rinse the tube with ethanol, rinse the bulb with clean water and let everything dry completely, so that no water gets into the new contents.
Is the 10 ml glass bottle and dropper set suitable for water-based serums?
Yes, both the glass and the dropper are suitable for water-based serums and toners. Drops of water-based products are smaller and faster than with oils, so the dispensing is finer. A water-based product in this packaging must be preserved, because the dropper comes into contact with air and hands with every use. With products containing a high proportion of alcohol, we recommend checking the tightness of the thread.
Why is the 10 ml glass bottle called a medicine bottle?
“Medicine bottle” is the name of the shape: a cylindrical bottle with straight walls, a short neck and a thread. This shape is used in cosmetics for serums, oils and samples, because it stands stably, is easy to hold in the hand and can be closed with a dropper, a cap or a sprayer with the same thread type.
