A ready-made set for small volumes of liquid preparations applied with precision: a brown glass vial with a volume of 10 ml and a white pump with a long nozzle, known as a throat spray. One press delivers approximately 0.1 ml, so the contents are dispensed accurately and without dripping. Brown glass filters light, which is beneficial for both aqueous and alcohol-based preparations containing essential oils or plant extracts.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The glass bottle has a separate certification for direct food contact; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.

Suitable uses

Oral sprays for breath freshening – the long nozzle directs the dose straight into the mouth, and 10 ml is enough for dozens of uses.
Tonics and serums for the scalp – the nozzle reaches through the hair to the scalp, and the preparation does not spray onto the surroundings.

How to use the set

The pump is a mechanical sprayer. Once screwed onto the neck with an 18/410 thread, it draws the contents through the dip tube from the bottom of the bottle and expels them through the nozzle in a narrow stream when pressed. Before first use, press it several times to prime it until the dip tube fills.

The dip tube is longer than the height of the bottle. Before use, shorten it with a sharp knife using a diagonal cut so that it reaches just to the bottom without bending. A bent dip tube draws in air, causing the pump to spray irregularly.

Works best with thin aqueous and alcohol-based preparations. Thicker contents, such as oils or glycerin solutions, may be dispensed poorly or not at all. With such a formulation, test dispensing on a small sample first, or dilute the contents.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume is the volume for which the container is designed under normal filling conditions. The total brim-full volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck. The difference between them is the allowance for the dip tube and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes.

Fill to the nominal volume, i.e. to 10 ml, not to the brim. If filled all the way to the neck, the contents will be pushed out around the thread when the pump is screwed on.

From one fill you get approximately 100 doses, which, when used several times a day, will last for weeks.

Good to know

Before the first fill, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow to dry completely. Rinse the pump with clean water or ethanol, and leave to dry with the dip tube facing up. Residual water in the dip tube would dilute the first dose.

Glass does not react with essential oils or alcohol, so the bottle can be reused. The pump is made of polypropylene. For preparations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, verify in the finished formulation that the seal and nozzle remain tight and unchanged over time.

Every aqueous preparation filled into this set requires preservation. The pump does protect the contents from direct contact, but air enters the bottle with each press.

When empty, the glass bottle goes into glass recycling and the pump into plastics; separate them before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Is the throat spray in this set suitable for oil-based preparations?

The pump is not suitable for pure oils — it dispenses them poorly or not at all. It is designed for thin aqueous and alcohol-based contents, such as tonics, hydrolats with a preservative, or oral sprays. An oil-based preparation can only be dispensed if it is thin, and you should verify dispensing on a small sample first.

Does the brown vial protect the contents from light?

Yes, brown glass filters light and slows the changes that light causes in essential oils, plant extracts, and vitamins. It does not, however, replace dark and cool storage, which remains the foundation for sensitive preparations. The contents can only be seen through brown glass when held up to the light.

How many doses does a 10 ml bottle with a throat spray deliver?

Approximately 100 doses, as one press delivers around 0.1 ml. The actual count depends on the density of the contents and how precisely the dip tube reaches the bottom. The last millilitre typically cannot be sprayed out completely — the dip tube no longer draws it up.

Can the set — glass vial and throat spray — be reused?

Yes, both the bottle and the pump can be refilled after washing and drying. When changing the preparation, however, we recommend replacing the pump with a new one — residues of the old fragrance or preservative are difficult to remove from the dip tube and nozzle. The brown glass bottle is suitable for further filling without restriction after disinfection with alcohol.

Why is it only filled to 10 ml when the bottle holds more?

The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 10 ml because the pump needs space below the neck for the dip tube, and the contents expand at higher temperatures. If filled to the brim, screwing on the pump will push the contents out around the thread and the container will no longer seal. The allowance between the nominal and total volume is intentional and serves for safe closure.
