Product description

The glass vial with a black aluminium cap is a ready-made combination of a small amber glass bottle and a metal screw closure with a sealing insert, designed for 10 ml of cosmetic product. Amber glass reduces light transmission, helping to protect contents sensitive to oxidation and UV radiation. It is a practical container for small volumes – samples, concentrates and preparations used drop by drop or in small doses.

The complete set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the vial with cap is suitable for

  • Facial and hair serums – the small volume suits concentrated preparations with active ingredients that are dosed drop by drop and consumed before they can oxidise.
  • Oil blends and essential oil mixtures – glass does not react with oils or essential oils, and the amber colouring slows their degradation by light.
  • Samples and test batches – when developing a formula or sending samples to customers, a small quantity and a sturdy, closeable container are sufficient.
  • Perfume and fragrance concentrates – the tightly sealed metal cap limits evaporation of volatile components.
  • Tinctures and alcohol-based extracts for cosmetic use – glass tolerates alcohol without any change in properties, which cannot always be said of plastic packaging.

How the set works

The vial has a neck with an 18/410 thread and the cap with the same thread simply screws on. Inside the cap there is a sealing insert made of EPE (expanded polyethylene), which seats on the rim of the neck and seals the container. The cap has no dispenser – contents are poured or taken directly from the neck, or dosed with a separate tool (a glass rod or measuring pipette). For drop-by-drop dosing we offer other closures with the same neck type, such as a dropper, as well as further ready-made combinations. With your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.

Tighten the cap by hand, not by force. The sealing insert seals the container with gentle tightening. Overtightening can deform the aluminium shell and make the thread harder to open.

Nominal and total volume

Two volume figures are distinguished for packaging. The nominal volume is the volume for which the vial is designed under normal filling conditions. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is always larger. The difference between them is the allowance needed by the cap's sealing insert or a possible dropper, and also space for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The vial should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The exact values of both volumes are given in the product specifications.

What is good to know

Preparation before first filling. New vials and caps are clean but not sterile. Before filling cosmetics, we recommend rinsing the vial, disinfecting it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving it to dry completely with the neck facing down. The cap with insert only needs to be wiped with a disinfectant. Do not soak the insert for extended periods, as it may come loose.

Repeated use. Glass can be washed and reused without restriction. When refilling, check whether the cap still seals properly, and replace it if necessary.

Material sensitivity. Glass tolerates oil-based, water-based and alcohol-based contents, but not sudden temperature changes – allow hot contents to cool before filling. For contents with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend a brief seal test of the cap before larger-scale filling.

Labelling. The cylindrical shape of the vial allows a narrow label to be applied around the circumference.

Recycling. Glass goes into glass waste, the aluminium cap into metals. Before disposal, simply unscrew the cap and sort separately.

The set is not intended for food packaging. The food-contact certification applies only to the glass vial on its own; the cap does not have it. Use the complete set only for cosmetic preparations.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber 10 ml glass vial protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass significantly limits the transmission of UV radiation and part of the visible spectrum, thereby slowing the degradation of light-sensitive ingredients. This applies in particular to vegetable and essential oils, vitamins and certain active substances in serums. Amber glass does not provide complete protection from light, so store the container away from direct sunlight.
Is the glass vial with an aluminium cap suitable for food?
No, the complete set is not declared for food contact. The food-contact certification applies only to the glass vial on its own; the aluminium cap with EPE insert does not have it. The vial + black aluminium cap combination is therefore intended for cosmetic preparations, for which the suitability of both components is declared.
Does the aluminium cap seal with oily or alcohol-based contents?
Yes, the cap with EPE sealing insert, when tightened by hand, seals water-based, oil-based and alcohol-based cosmetic contents. For contents with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend a brief seal test before larger-scale filling. Overtightening the cap will not improve the seal – it will more likely deform the aluminium shell.
How much can actually be filled into the 10 ml vial?
The vial is filled to the nominal volume, i.e. approximately 10 ml. The total volume to the brim is larger, but this difference serves as a reserve for the cap's sealing insert, for a possible dropper and for the expansion of contents when the temperature changes. If you fill the vial to the brim, the contents will be pushed out when closing or will leak under the cap.
How do I prepare the glass vial before filling cosmetics?
Rinse the vial, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leave it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Wipe the cap with a disinfectant on the outside and inside, but do not soak the insert for extended periods. Fill only into a dry container. Residual water would dilute oil-based preparations and, in the case of water-based ones, increase the risk of microbial contamination.
Can a different closure be used with the 10 ml vial instead of the aluminium cap?
Yes, the vial has an 18/410 thread and other closures with the same thread can be used with it, such as a dropper for drop-by-drop dosing. With your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal and how the closure behaves with the specific formulation. Ready-made combinations of the vial with various closures can be found in the Handymade range.
