Product description

A ready-to-use set of a brown glass vial with a nominal volume of 10 ml and a black mechanical pump sprayer is designed for liquids applied as a fine mist that also require light protection. Suitable for facial and hair mists, tonics, hydrolats, alcohol-based perfume waters, refreshers, as well as samples and travel-size packaging of larger products. The small volume is practical for testing formulations, customer samples, or products that are used up quickly.

Brown glass reduces light transmission, making it suitable for light-sensitive contents – aqueous solutions with active ingredients, hydrolats, extracts or alcohol tinctures. Glass is chemically stable and does not react with essential oils or alcohol, which is especially appreciated in spray products for fragrances.

How the set works

The sprayer screws directly onto the bottle neck and draws the contents through a dip tube from the bottom. Each press releases a small, consistent dose of approximately 0.14 ml, so the product is applied evenly and without spilling. The sprayer is made of polypropylene, which tolerates both aqueous and alcohol-based contents.

The sprayer dip tube is longer than the bottle. Before first use, trim it with a sharp knife or scalpel so it reaches just above the bottom, preferably with an angled cut – the sprayer will then dispense the contents with almost no residue left.

The sprayer works reliably with thin liquids: water, hydrolats, tonics, alcohol solutions and very light oils. Thick oils, emulsions or gels spray poorly, clog the nozzle and the mist turns into a stream – for such products a pump or dropper is more suitable. Before filling a larger batch, we recommend testing the behaviour of the specific formulation with a single unit.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the quantity the packaging is designed for during standard filling, and the bottle is labelled accordingly. Total brim-full volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides headspace for the sprayer dip tube, which takes up some space once screwed in, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – otherwise the contents will leak when closing. Exact values for both volumes are listed in the specifications.

Suitable for products such as

  • Facial and hair mists – aqueous or hydrolat-based formulations with active ingredients, applied by spraying without hand contact.
  • Perfume waters and fragrance samples – alcohol-based compositions, where dark glass slows down changes in the fragrance.
  • Tonics and refreshers – light, aqueous skincare products used after cleansing or during the day.
  • Disinfectant and alcohol sprays – for hands, tools or work surfaces in a small, portable packaging.
  • Samples and travel-size packaging – decanting a larger product into a small container for testing or travel.

Good to know

The set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The glass bottle individually holds food-contact certification; the sprayer does not, so the set is intended for cosmetic and technical use, not for food.

Before first filling, wash the bottle, rinse it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Flush the sprayer with a few pumps of clean water or alcohol and also let it dry – residual water would dilute the first dose. After filling, press the sprayer two to three times away from the skin until the dip tube is filled with product.

Glass tolerates cleaning with hot water and repeated heating, but not sudden temperature changes – do not place a heated bottle into cold water. The polypropylene sprayer is cleaned with lukewarm water or alcohol.

The bottle is also designed for refilling. When changing the contents for a different product, replace or thoroughly rinse the sprayer as well – the dip tube and nozzle retain residue from the previous fragrance.

When combining with a different closure of your own choice, look for closures with the same neck type as specified in the parameters in the Handymade range, and verify the seal and dosing with the specific formulation before filling a batch. When disposed of, the bottle goes into glass waste and the sprayer into plastic.

Frequently asked questions

Does a brown glass bottle with a sprayer protect the contents from light?
Yes, brown glass significantly reduces light transmission and thereby slows down the changes that light causes in sensitive ingredients. It is therefore suitable for hydrolats, aqueous solutions with active ingredients and perfume compositions. No glass provides complete protection, so filled bottles should still be stored away from direct sunlight.
Can oil or emulsion be applied using the vial sprayer?
The sprayer is designed for thin liquids and will not atomise thick oil or emulsion into a mist. Very light oils, such as squalane or diluted oil blends, will usually pass through, but rather than a fine mist you will get more of a stream and the nozzle will clog faster. For oils and creamy textures, a dropper or pump is more suitable.
How much liquid fits in a 10 ml vial with a sprayer?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, i.e. 10 ml. The bottle has a slightly larger physical volume up to the brim, but this space is taken up by the sprayer dip tube and the headspace for content expansion. If overfilled, the contents will leak when closing and the sprayer will be harder to screw on.
Is a glass bottle with a sprayer suitable for alcohol-based products such as perfume waters?
Yes, both glass and the polypropylene sprayer tolerate alcohol without any issues, so the set is suitable for perfume waters, alcohol tinctures and disinfectant sprays. With alcohol-based contents, press the sprayer a few times after filling away from the skin until the dip tube is filled, and when changing contents rinse the sprayer thoroughly so fragrances do not mix.
Is the glass bottle and sprayer set approved for contact with food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for food contact. The glass bottle individually holds food-contact certification; the sprayer does not. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics and is intended for cosmetic and technical use.
