Product description

This 10 ml amber glass pharmaceutical bottle with a white and silver matte dropper is designed for small cosmetic packs that are dispensed drop by drop. Amber glass reduces light exposure, so the bottle suits face serums, face oils and essential oil blends in a carrier oil, oil concentrates with active ingredients, alcohol tinctures for cosmetic use, or samples from a larger pack. The dropper picks up exactly the amount you need, and the contents do not spill during dispensing.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact, but the set with the dropper, as a whole, is intended for cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Face serums and oil concentrates – more expensive ingredients are dispensed drop by drop, so no more is used from the pack than necessary.
  • Essential oil blends – the dropper allows you to count drops when diluting into a carrier oil or a cream.
  • Samples and test batches – the 10 ml volume is enough for a customer to try the product, or for you to keep a batch sample for comparison.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts for cosmetic use – the dropper also copes with thin, watery contents, where too large a dose could easily pour out of an ordinary neck.

How the dropper dispenses and seals

The dropper screws directly onto the neck of the pharmaceutical bottle with an 18/410 neck finish. The length of the glass tube is chosen for this 10 ml pharmaceutical bottle. Once tightened, the dropper closes the bottle. Before shipping, however, we recommend test-filling the set and laying it on its side, so that you can check the seal with your own formulation. You can find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations of bottle and closure in the Handymade range. With your own combination, check the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific contents.

The matte white and silver finish of the dropper also suits packs sold under your own brand, where the closure should look uniform with the dark glass.

Nominal volume and filling

The 10 ml volume is the nominal volume, that is, the amount the pharmaceutical bottle is designed for under normal filling. The brimful capacity, that is, the physical volume up to the neck, is slightly larger and you can find it in the specifications. The difference is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which displaces part of the volume once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature.

Fill the pharmaceutical bottle up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is filled up to the neck, the dropper pushes the contents out when screwed in and the closure becomes sticky.

Preparation before filling and reuse

Before the first filling, wash both the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely, so that no water or any impurities from production and transport get into the product. Proceed in the same way for every further filling. The set can be used repeatedly. With oil-based contents, however, cleaning is more demanding, as oil residues in the tube and in the upper part of the dropper are harder to remove than with water-based products.

When refilling with a new batch, we recommend taking the dropper apart into the parts that can be separated, rinsing them with ethanol and letting them dry completely before reassembly.

The bottle belongs in glass recycling. The dropper combines glass, aluminium, PP and silicone, so it must be separated from the bottle before recycling.

Good to know

Glass withstands contact with common cosmetic ingredients without change, but it is sensitive to sudden changes in temperature. Let a hot oil phase or a freshly boiled extract cool down before filling, and do not move the bottle straight from the cold into the warm.

In addition to glass, the dropper contains plastic and silicone parts. With undiluted essential oils and solvents, we recommend checking how these parts behave during longer contact with the contents, especially if the pack is meant to last several months.

Thick oils and viscous serums are drawn up more slowly through the dropper. For very thick products, choose another closure with the same neck type. Thin water-based and alcohol-based contents are dispensed by the dropper without problems.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber glass of the pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces light exposure of the contents and slows the changes that light causes in oils, essential oils and sensitive active ingredients. However, it does not replace storage away from direct sunlight or an antioxidant in the formulation. For ingredients that change quickly in light, treat dark glass as the basis and always combine it with correct storage.
How much actually fits into a 10 ml pharmaceutical bottle with a dropper?
The bottle is filled with 10 ml, which is its nominal volume. The physical volume up to the brim is larger and you can find it in the specifications. This difference is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. If you fill the bottle up to the neck, the dropper pushes part of the contents out when screwed in.
Can the pharmaceutical bottle with a dropper be reused, and how do I clean it?
Yes, the set can be refilled repeatedly. Wash the bottle with warm water and a cleaning product, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry. Rinse the dropper with ethanol and dry it thoroughly, as water residues in the tube would get into the new filling. With oil-based contents, expect cleaning to take longer.
Is the pharmaceutical bottle with a dropper suitable for both oil-based and water-based contents?
Yes, the dropper dispenses oil serums, essential oil blends and thin water-based or alcohol-based contents. Thick oils and viscous serums are drawn up more slowly, and for very thick products another closure with the same neck type is more suitable. With undiluted essential oils, we recommend checking how the plastic and silicone parts of the dropper behave during longer contact.
Is the pharmaceutical bottle and dropper set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact, but the dropper does not have this suitability declared. If you need packaging for food use, combine the bottle with a closure whose suitability for food contact is stated in its specifications.
