What the set is suitable for

The spray pump is designed for water-based and thin liquids. It works best with facial tonics, hydrolats, face and body mists, hair tonics, hair refresh sprays and light alcohol solutions. It is also suitable for perfumed waters, provided you check the behaviour of your specific formulation with the plastic parts of the spray pump beforehand.

The set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products. The glass bottle alone holds a food-contact attestation; the spray pump does not, so the set is not intended for food use.

Filling and working with the spray pump

Before filling for the first time, wash the bottle with warm water and a small amount of detergent, rinse thoroughly and disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Leave to dry completely neck-down, then fill. Before use, pump the spray pump a few times with clean water and let it drip to remove any manufacturing dust.

Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the quantity for which the container is designed under normal filling conditions; the total capacity to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the dip tube, air in the neck and expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If you fill the bottle to the brim, tightening the spray pump will cause the contents to overflow through the neck and the dip tube will have nowhere to fit.

When using a new formulation for the first time, we recommend a test on a single bottle: leave the filled set standing for several days, also on its side, and monitor the seal integrity, any colour change of the plastic and the spray quality. Alcoholic solutions and preparations with a higher proportion of essential oils may soften or discolour the spray pump's plastic over time, so behaviour depends on the specific formulation.

What is good to know

• Glass and heat – do not fill the bottle with hot contents and do not expose it to sudden temperature changes; the glass may crack. Allow the water phase to cool before filling.
• Preservation of water-based preparations – the spray pump limits contact with hands, but does not replace a preservative. Tonics and hydrolats in a bottle with a spray pump must be preserved the same way as in any other container.
• Dip tube and remaining contents – the dip tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle; before first use, trim it so it reaches the bottom without bending. The last few millilitres still cannot be pumped out, so account for this when calculating the usable volume.
• Cleaning between refills – pump the spray pump with warm then clean water until only clear mist comes from the nozzle; do not submerge it in solvents.
• Label – the straight cylindrical wall of the bottle is suitable for a wraparound label; dimensions for the label can be found in the product parameters.
• Recycling – the bottle goes in the glass bin; the spray pump is made of plastic and metal and must be separated from the glass before disposal.
