Product description
The amber glass medicine bottle with dropper, 10 ml, is intended for small volumes of preparations that are dispensed drop by drop and need protection from light. Amber glass reduces the penetration of light, so this set is particularly suitable for facial serums, face oils, essential oil blends, tinctures or samples of new formulations. The tall, slim type B medicine bottle has a narrow threaded neck into which the dropper is screwed, sealing the bottle at the same time.
The set is supplied as a ready-made pair: the medicine bottle and the matching dropper in white and gold. There is no need to choose a closure or test whether the glass tube is long enough. The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the glass medicine bottle has a separate certificate for direct food contact, the dropper does not, so the set is intended for cosmetic use.
Suitable uses
- Concentrated facial serums – both water-based and oil-based, where only a few drops are used at a time and a larger bottle would take a long time to use up.
- Face and body oils in a small pack – amber glass slows down the effect of light, which speeds up the yellowing of oils.
- Essential oil blends – dispensing drop by drop is the natural way to use them. We recommend checking the compatibility of the dropper bulb with the specific concentrated blend in advance.
- Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass does not react with alcohol and dark glass protects the pigments in the extract.
- Samples and test batches – a volume of 10 ml is enough to try out a formulation with a customer or to store a trial batch.
Dropper and dispensing
The dropper consists of a glass tube, a silicone bulb and a screw closure made of plastic with an aluminium shell. Pressing the bulb draws in the contents, which are then dispensed drop by drop. A small amount is thus measured precisely and the preparation does not pour out through the neck. The length of the tube is chosen for the tall shape of the medicine bottle, so that the contents can be drawn even from an almost empty bottle.
The dropper has the same type of neck as the medicine bottle, so it fits without trial and error. You can find other closures with this type of neck and other ready-made combinations of packaging with a closure in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
Silicone and plastic are not suitable for every concentrated substance. For pure essential oils, solvents or extracts with a high alcohol content, check on one sample whether the dropper bulb softens or swells and whether the closure stays tight.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume of 10 ml is the amount the medicine bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and you can find it in the parameters. The difference between them forms a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which pushes part of the contents upwards when it is screwed in. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the medicine bottle is overfilled, the contents will overflow through the neck when the dropper is fitted or leak under the closure.
When filling thicker serums or oils, use a funnel or a syringe and let the preparation settle for a moment before screwing in the dropper. Otherwise, air bubbles distort the actual volume in the medicine bottle.
Good to know
Before the first filling, the medicine bottle and the dropper are washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. Residual water in empty packaging dilutes anhydrous preparations and, in water-based preparations, increases the microbial load that the preservative has to cope with.
Glass tolerates heat, but hot contents are not poured into the medicine bottle. A sudden change of temperature can damage the glass and a hot preparation puts unnecessary strain on the silicone bulb. Emulsions and serums are filled only after they have cooled.
The set can be used repeatedly. When switching to a different preparation, the dropper is taken apart, and the tube and bulb are rinsed, disinfected and dried. Residues of fragrance compounds are harder to remove from silicone, so a new dropper is recommended for a new fragrance.
The glass medicine bottle belongs in sorted glass waste. The dropper is made of several materials, so before disposal the glass tube is separated from the plastic closure with its aluminium shell and the silicone bulb.
