Product description

The amber glass medicine bottle with a capacity of 100 ml and a white dropper is a ready-made packaging set for liquid products that are dispensed by the drop. Amber glass filters light, so the set suits serums, face and body oils, or blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, where light speeds up the ageing of the contents. Glass does not absorb fragrances from the contents and does not react with alcohol, so the same packaging works for water-based, alcohol-based and oil-based formulations.

The dropper has a glass tube, a silicone head and a white PP cap with tamper-evident ring, which screws onto the 18 mm neck of the bottle. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the bottle has a certificate for direct contact with food; the dropper does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.

What the set is suitable for

  • Face serums – the dropper measures out exactly the amount applied to the face, and the rest of the contents stays in dark glass.
  • Face and body oils – vegetable oils sensitive to light and oxidation, such as rosehip or flaxseed oil, last longer in amber glass without a change of scent.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – alcohol does not damage the glass, and dispensing by the drop is the usual way of using tinctures.
  • Essential oil blends – diluted in a carrier oil for massage or aromatherapy, where drops are counted.
  • Hair and nail oils – applied in small amounts directly to the scalp or the nail bed.

The dropper is intended for liquids with low to medium viscosity. Thick gels, creams and emulsions of a creamy consistency will not be drawn into it; a different type of closure suits such products.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume of 100 ml is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is larger. The difference provides a reserve for the dropper tube, which dips into the contents once the dropper is screwed in, and for slight expansion of the liquid when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the neck.

With oils and alcohol extracts, leave free space below the neck. An overfilled bottle overflows when the dropper is screwed in, and alcohol also increases in volume in warm conditions.

The length of the dropper matches the height of the bottle, so the tube reaches deep into the contents and draws up the last of them as well.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the tube gets into the oil and causes cloudiness. The glass can be reused after thorough washing. For the dropper, we recommend rinsing the head and the tube with alcohol between different contents, so that the scent of the previous formulation is not carried over.

The glass withstands hot water when washing, but it must not be exposed to a sudden change of temperature, for example by filling a cold bottle with boiling contents.

Always screw the dropper back on after use. The head stays open to the air, and the contents in the tube oxidise faster than the contents in the bottle.

Other closures with the same type of neck also fit the bottle, and you will find ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation. The bottle belongs in glass recycling; before recycling, take the dropper apart into the glass tube and the plastic parts.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 100 ml amber glass medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass filters both visible and UV light, which speeds up the oxidation of oils and the breakdown of sensitive active ingredients. It does not provide complete darkness, so products with vitamin C, retinol or unsaturated oils should be kept away from direct sunlight even in amber glass. Compared with a clear bottle, the contents in amber glass keep their original colour and scent for longer.
How much liquid should go into a bottle with a dropper when its nominal volume is 100 ml?
Fill to the nominal volume, that is 100 ml, not to the neck. The space above this level is a reserve for the dropper tube, which dips into the contents once the dropper is screwed in, and for the expansion of the liquid when the temperature changes. The total brimful volume is therefore larger than the nominal volume, and we state its value in the product parameters.
Is the bottle with a dropper suitable for oils as well as water-based toners?
Yes, the glass is suitable for oil-based, water-based and alcohol-based contents. The dropper draws up and measures out liquids of low to medium viscosity, from water-based toners to vegetable oils. Thick gels and creams are not drawn into the tube; a different closure with the same type of neck is more suitable for them.
Can the amber glass medicine bottle with a dropper be washed and used again?
Yes, after washing and disinfection the glass can be reused. Wash the bottle with warm water and detergent, rinse it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Take the dropper apart and rinse the tube and the head with alcohol, so that neither the scent nor residues of the previous contents are carried over into the new formulation.
Is the 100 ml bottle and dropper set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products. Only the glass bottle has a certificate for direct contact with food; the dropper does not carry this declaration. For homemade oils or syrups, the bottle is therefore suitable only with a different closure that has a food-contact declaration.
