Yes, the packaging can be reused if handled correctly. It is always necessary, however, to follow hygiene principles – before each new filling, thoroughly clean the bottle and the sprayer and then disinfect them with a suitable alcohol. For disinfection you can use, for example, isopropyl alcohol or ethanol in the qualities available on Handymade (IPA 99 % isopropyl alkohol, etanol 96 % denaturovaný rastlinný). Only after the packaging has dried completely is the bottle ready to be refilled.

The sprayer is most suitable for low-viscosity, liquid formulations – water-based solutions, hydrolats, toners, non-greasy serums or light cleansing or disinfectant sprays. With thicker emulsions, oil blends or gels, misting performance may be impaired, so we recommend always doing a trial filling before final use and testing both the consistency and the functionality of the dosing.

The glass part of the packaging can first be rinsed with warm water and a mild cleaning agent, thoroughly rinsed and left to dry. Afterwards we recommend disinfecting the inner surface and the neck of the bottle with alcohol, for example with the products IPA 99 % isopropyl alkohol or etanol 96 % denaturovaný rastlinný. Clean the sprayer gently – rinse it with warm water, or with water containing a small amount of mild detergent, and allow the water to pass through the entire pump system. After rinsing, let the components dry completely in a clean place before reusing.

If you decide not to use the packaging any further, we recommend recycling it in accordance with local waste-sorting rules. The glass body of the bottle can usually be placed in the glass container once it has been freed of any remaining contents. The plastic parts of the sprayer (head, tube) should be separated from the bottle and disposed of in the appropriate plastic container, if this is permitted under the sorting rules in your area. Glass is generally a resistant material even for formulations containing alcohol or essential oils, so with an appropriate ratio of components this type of container is usually a suitable choice. However, the sprayer may have a shortened service life with a very high proportion of alcohol or concentrated essential oils. We therefore recommend always creating a test batch, leaving it in the bottle for several days and regularly checking the sprayer’s functionality, sealing and any visible changes in the materials.
