Product description
A blue glass bottle with a matte silver dropper is a ready-made packaging solution for serums, face and body oils, tinctures and other liquid preparations that are applied by the drop or in small amounts. Blue glass reduces the light reaching the contents, which matters for vegetable oils and active ingredients prone to oxidation. The dropper measures an exact dose without fingers coming into contact with the contents, and turns the filled bottle into a product ready for sale or for your own use.
The set consists of a medicine bottle with a nominal volume of 100 ml and a dropper with a matching thread; the closure fits tightly and you do not need to buy it separately. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics, and you will find the declaration of conformity with the product. It is not declared for contact with food, so do not fill the bottle with edible oils, syrups or extracts intended for consumption.
What the set is suitable for
- Face serums – both water-based and oil-based serums are dispensed in a few drops; the dropper allows precise application to the face or the palm.
- Face and body oils – rosehip, cranberry or flaxseed oil quickly turn yellow and lose their scent, and these are the oils for which coloured glass makes sense.
- Oil blends with essential oils – the glass tube of the dropper resists essential oils; the blend can be measured out by the drop into a bath, a diffuser or a carrier oil.
- Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass does not react with alcohol; they are dosed with the dropper into toners, facial lotions or bath salts.
- Oil serums for hair and beard – a volume of 100 ml corresponds to a common retail pack, and the dropper applies the oil to the ends of the hair or to the skin.
Dropper and dispensing
The dropper consists of a glass tube, a white silicone bulb and a matte silver aluminium shell above a plastic thread. The length of the tube corresponds to the height of the bottle, so the contents can be drawn up even from the bottom when the bottle is nearly empty.
A drop forms at the tip of the tube, and its size depends on the viscosity of the contents. Watery toners and hydrosols drip quickly. Light and medium-thick oils are drawn up without problems. Thicker serums with a high proportion of gelling agents are drawn into the tube slowly and the drop is released with difficulty; for such textures a pump is more suitable.
The silicone bulb should not be in long-term contact with the contents. Store the bottle upright and do not turn it upside down. With concentrated essential oils, monitor the behaviour of the bulb during longer use and replace it if it softens.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for under normal filling, in this case 100 ml. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is given in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the dropper tube, which displaces part of the contents upwards, and for the expansion of the liquid with changes in temperature.
Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Leave the space up to the neck free, otherwise the contents will overflow when the dropper is screwed on.
What to know before filling
Before first use, wash the bottle with warm water, rinse it and disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Then let it dry completely, as residues of water in an oil product or tincture are not desirable. The dropper can be taken apart: pull off the bulb, then rinse and disinfect the tube and thread separately.
The bottle is made of glass and is not intended for sudden changes in temperature. Do not pour hot contents into it; wait until they cool to room temperature. It may break if dropped on a hard surface, so wrap it in protective material when sending it to customers.
The packaging is reusable. When changing the contents, for example from an essential oil blend to a serum, the scent of the previous product may remain in the silicone of the bulb; in that case, replace the bulb. The bottle belongs in glass recycling. The dropper is made of several materials, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.
If you want to use the bottle with a different closure, choose according to the neck type given in the parameters. You will find closures sold separately and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
