Product description

The blue glass bottle with a dropper, 15 ml, is intended for small volumes of liquid preparations that are dispensed drop by drop: face and hair serums, oil blends, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, or concentrated active ingredients. Blue glass lets through less light than clear glass, which suits contents that are sensitive to light, for example oils prone to oxidation or serums containing vitamins.

The dropper with a white matte closure screws directly onto the neck of the bottle. Its glass tube is matched in length to the height of the medicine bottle, so the contents can be drawn up even when the level is low. The squeeze bulb is made of silicone and the closure of PP. The dropper has a declaration of suitability for contact with cosmetic products; you will find it in the dropper’s parameters.

What it is suitable for

  • Face and hair serums – the dropper measures out a few drops without the contents spilling or running over the rim.
  • Single oils and oil blends – blue glass helps protect unsaturated oils, which spoil faster in light.
  • Blends of essential oils in a carrier oil – the small volume suits a massage or aromatherapy blend that you mix for a shorter period of use.
  • Trial batches – a small volume for testing a formulation before making a larger quantity, for serums and oil blends alike.
  • Gift and sample packaging – a compact medicine bottle with a dropper also works as a sample for customers.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume of 15 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for with normal filling. The brimful volume given in the parameters is larger, because it includes the space up to the neck. The difference is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which displaces part of the contents once screwed in, and for expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. For this reason, fill only up to the nominal volume. If the bottle is filled to the brim, the contents will overflow over the thread when the dropper is fitted and the closure will not seal properly.

The narrow neck is easier to fill using a small funnel or the dropper itself. Thick gels and creams cannot be dispensed well with a dropper; this set is intended for liquid and slightly viscous preparations.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely, including the inside of the glass tube. The same procedure applies when reusing them. Before each further filling, check that the silicone bulb keeps its shape and draws up the contents.

In the normal position, the contents are in contact mainly with the glass. When the bottle is stored on its side, or when liquid is drawn up into the bulb, the contents also come into contact with the silicone and plastic. For blends with a high proportion of essential oils or alcohol, test how the closure behaves with your specific formulation.

Do not fill the glass bottle with hot contents and do not expose it to sudden changes in temperature. Let serums and oil blends cool to room temperature before filling.

Once emptied and washed, the bottle is sorted as glass. The dropper combines glass, silicone and plastic, so it is disposed of separately from the bottle.

You can also combine the medicine bottle on its own with other closures that have the same neck type, which is given in the parameters. You will find closures and ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue 15 ml glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Partly. Blue glass lets through less light than clear glass and so slows changes in light-sensitive contents, for example the oxidation of vegetable oils. It is not completely opaque, so even in blue glass, store light-sensitive serums and oils out of direct sunlight, ideally in a cupboard or drawer.
How much liquid fits in a 15 ml bottle with a dropper?
It holds 15 ml with normal filling, which is the nominal volume of the bottle. Physically the medicine bottle holds more; the brimful volume is given in the parameters. The difference is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper and for expansion of the contents. If you fill the bottle to the brim, the contents will overflow over the thread when you screw on the dropper.
Can the glass bottle with a dropper be reused?
Yes, after thorough cleaning. Wash the bottle and the dropper, rinse them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely, otherwise residual water will dilute the new contents. When reusing, check the silicone bulb. If it has hardened or lost its elasticity, the dropper will no longer draw up the contents correctly and it is better to replace it.
Is the 15 ml bottle with a dropper suitable for water-based, oil-based and alcohol-based contents?
The glass bottle can hold water-based serums, oils and alcohol-based preparations, as glass does not react with them. The dropper works best with liquid and slightly viscous contents. For blends with a high proportion of alcohol or essential oils, check how the silicone bulb and the plastic closure react to them over the long term, especially if the contents reach the bulb.
Can a closure other than the dropper be fitted on the blue 15 ml medicine bottle?
Yes, closures with the same neck type fit the bottle; you will find the neck type in the product parameters. Examples are a screw cap or another type of dropper. Suitable closures and ready-made sets are in the Handymade range. For your own combination, check the seal of the screwed-on closure and its behaviour with your contents, especially with oils and alcohol.
