Product description

The amber glass medicine bottle with a volume of 15 ml and a white matte dropper is used for packaging and dispensing liquid preparations by the drop. Amber glass limits the amount of light reaching the contents, so the set is suited mainly to facial serums, facial oils, blends with essential oils, tinctures or concentrates of active ingredients containing light-sensitive components. The small volume matches the quantity of serums and oils that is used up before the contents have time to age.

The medicine bottle and the dropper both have an 18/410 neck finish, so you do not need to combine them or check whether they fit together. The dropper consists of a silicone bulb, a glass tube and a plastic threaded cap in a white matte finish. Both parts of the set are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial and eye serums – the dropper measures out a few drops for a single use, while the rest of the contents stays in dark glass without unnecessary contact with air.
  • Facial and hair oils – glass neither dissolves nor absorbs them, and dispensing drop by drop prevents more than needed from being poured out.
  • Essential oil blends and fragrance compositions – they are measured out by the drop; for concentrated essential oils we recommend checking how the silicone bulb behaves in longer contact.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass is resistant to alcohol and the amber colour protects the extract from light.
  • Samples and travel packs – a test quantity for a customer or for travelling can be decanted from a larger pack.

Filling and dispensing

The volume of 15 ml is the nominal volume, that is, the quantity the medicine bottle is intended for under normal filling. The total brimful volume stated in the parameters is larger, because it measures the physical volume up to the neck. The difference is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which takes up part of the space once it is screwed in.

Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the thread when the dropper is screwed in, which soils the cap and may eventually cause the closure to stick.

To dispense, simply squeeze the bulb, immerse the tube in the contents and release. Thicker oils are drawn up more slowly than toners or water-based serums, which in turn drip out faster. The size of a drop differs between liquids, so the usage rate in a recipe is stated by weight or volume, not by the number of drops.

Good to know

Before the first filling, we recommend washing the medicine bottle and the dropper, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and letting them dry completely. Residual water in the tube or at the bottom would dilute an oil-based filling and, in anhydrous recipes, create an environment for microbial growth.

Glass does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature. Let a hot mixture cool down before filling, and do not move the medicine bottle straight from the cold into hot water.

The set is not declared for contact with food. Use it for cosmetic preparations, not for home-made oils, syrups or other foods.

After thorough washing and drying, the medicine bottle can be reused. With the dropper, keep an eye on the condition of the silicone bulb: if it hardens, changes colour or stops sealing, simply replace the dropper and keep the glass bottle. The medicine bottle also fits other closures with an 18/410 neck finish from the Handymade range; if you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal with your specific formulation.

For recycling, the medicine bottle belongs with glass. The dropper is made of several materials; before disposal it can be taken apart and the individual parts sorted.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 15 ml amber glass medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass limits the amount of light reaching the contents and so slows down changes in light-sensitive ingredients. Compared with a clear medicine bottle, it is a better choice for serums with vitamins, facial oils and essential oil blends. However, it does not replace storage in a darker place away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.
How much liquid can actually be filled into a 15 ml medicine bottle?
You fill 15 ml, that is, the nominal volume, not the total brimful volume. The difference between the two values is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which takes up part of the space once it is screwed in. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the thread when the dropper is screwed in. The exact brimful volume is stated in the product parameters.
Is the dropper suitable for essential oils and blends containing them?
Yes, the dropper is commonly used for measuring out blends with essential oils by the drop. The glass tube and the amber glass of the medicine bottle are resistant to them. With pure concentrated essential oils, we recommend checking the silicone bulb after some time for softening or a change of colour, and replacing the dropper if either occurs.
Can the glass medicine bottle with a dropper be washed and used again?
Yes, after thorough washing, disinfection with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and complete drying, the medicine bottle and the dropper can be reused. Residues of the previous contents in the glass tube and the bulb should be rinsed out several times so that they do not affect the fragrance of the new filling. If the bulb has lost its elasticity or does not seal, replace only the dropper.
Does a closure other than the dropper fit the 15 ml medicine bottle?
Yes, the medicine bottle has an 18/410 neck finish, and closures with the same type of neck from the Handymade range fit it. When replacing the dropper with another closure, we recommend checking the seal with your specific formulation, especially with alcohol-based and oil-based contents, and test-filling one medicine bottle before a larger batch.
