Combining with closures and dispensers

The glass jar is supplied as a complete set with a plastic lid, which creates a functional and tested combination of packaging and closure. Combinations of packaging and closures created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend carrying out your own compatibility test (sealing, dosing and behaviour of the packaging in contact with the specific formulation). When changing the type of closure or with specific formulations (high content of oils, acids or alcohol) it is advisable to test the behaviour of the thread, the sealing and the long-term stability of the contents in contact with the packaging.

FAQ – Most frequent questions

How should I correctly prepare the glass jar before the first filling?

Before the first filling we recommend visually checking the jar, removing any dust and, if necessary, rinsing it and allowing it to dry completely. For sensitive or natural formulations it is appropriate to disinfect the packaging before use with a suitable alcohol-based preparation and, after treatment, allow the alcohol residues to evaporate so that the inner surface is clean and dry. This minimises the risk of microbial contamination and of affecting the stability of the product.

Is it possible to use the glass jar repeatedly for different products?

The jar can be used repeatedly if hygienic practices are followed, especially if it remains designated for a similar type of product. Before each new filling it is necessary to clean the packaging thoroughly and disinfect it with a suitable alcohol, for example using the products IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based. After cleaning and disinfection, allow the packaging to dry completely and only then fill it again in order to maintain the stability and safety of your formulation.

How can I ensure that the contents in the jar remain stable during storage?

You can support the stability of the contents through an appropriate formula and correct storage. Store the jar well closed, in a dry place and away from direct sunlight or sources of heat. The dark glass helps reduce the influence of light on sensitive components, but for very sensitive formulations storage in a cooler and stable environment is recommended. During production it is advisable to work with clean tools and to prevent excessive contact of the contents with fingers in order to minimise the risk of contamination.

How should I correctly recycle the glass jar and plastic lid if I no longer want to use it?

If you decide not to use the jar any longer, we recommend recycling it responsibly according to the material composition specified in the product parameters. The glass part can usually be placed in the glass container after removing product residues and rinsing. The plastic lid, after cleaning, is sorted into the appropriate plastic container according to local waste-sorting rules. Before handing it over for recycling, make sure that larger product residues have been removed from the packaging so that the material can be more easily processed in the recycling process.
