Candle wicks – the right choice for clean burning and a reliable flame

The choice of wick determines whether the candle burns evenly, without smoking and tunneling, creates an adequate wax pool and fully releases the fragrance. In the range you will find cotton wicks (EKO, LX, Stabilo) and wooden wicks (flat, cross, “booster”, quiet and crackling), as well as holders and tabs for easy centering.

When choosing, take into account the container diameter, type of wax (soy, paraffin, blend), fragrance load and the presence of colorants. Every formulation is unique – therefore always carry out a burn test with the actual fragrance and color at the target pouring temperature.

Practical tip: start with a lower output and gradually move higher. Monitor flame height, pool width after 2–3 hours and any “mushrooming”. Trim to ~5 mm before each lighting.

Cotton wicks for candles

Cotton series are universal for container and pillar candles, easy to fine‑tune thanks to the size range and provide a stable, quiet flame. Selected models from the EKO line can be found here: Eko-1, Eko-4, Eko-8, Eko-10, Eko-14. Gentle burning, wide size range and easy power tuning. For higher fragrance loads or dark colors, consider one size up in diameter.

Wooden wicks for candles

Wooden wicks (flat, cross, “booster”, spiral, crackling and “quiet”) deliver a premium look and a characteristic crackle effect. They are ideal for soy and blended waxes; in larger diameters they make it easier to create a wide pool even without two cotton wicks. Strong visual impact and an even pool with correct sizing. Pay attention to precise centering and choose a stand according to the type (flat, cross, spiral).

Choosing the size and tuning the flame

Container diameter: 6–7 cm = smaller sizes; 7–9 cm = medium; 9+ cm = larger, or possibly cross/double wooden wick.
Wax: soy usually requires one step “stronger” wick than paraffin; blend waxes are in between.
Fragrance and colorant: higher percentage and heavier perfumes, dark pigments can mute the flame – consider a larger size or a “booster”.
Trimming: trim to ~5 mm before each lighting; this reduces smoking and “mushrooming”.
Burn test: monitor the pool after 2–3 hours, the temperature of the container wall and the wick length during the cycle.

Practical accessories and assembly

For convenient production, use metal wick holders and metal tabs for centering. For wooden cross and spiral wicks, choose a matching stand and maintain perpendicularity during pouring. Precise centering and fixation = stable flame and level pool.

FAQ – Most frequent questions

How to choose between a cotton and a wooden wick?

A cotton wick is universal, quiet and can be tuned precisely via sizes. A wooden wick delivers a crackling effect and a premium look, suitable for wider containers and soy/blend waxes. Decide according to container diameter, wax type and fragrance profile.

Why does the same wick burn differently in different fragrances?

The perfume composition, its concentration and the presence of colorants change the viscosity and evaporation of the fuel. Test each fragrance separately with the actual dosage and color; a small adjustment of the size or wick type is often necessary.

When to use a wooden “booster” or cross wick?

If the container is wide, the fragrance is rich or the wax is harder to melt, a “booster”/cross wick increases heat output and pool width while preserving the character of the wooden flame.

How to prevent smoking and “mushrooming” with cotton wicks?

Trim to ~5 mm, consider a smaller size or adjustment of fragrance/colorant. With soy waxes a slight “cap” is common; correct trimming and size tuning will minimize it.
