Product description

Glass bottle with black aluminium cap, 10 ml

A small glass 10 ml pharmaceutical bottle and a screw-on aluminium cap make a complete set for packaging smaller amounts of cosmetics. It is suitable for facial serums, face and hair oils, perfume and massage oils, tinctures or samples that you want to give to customers or friends to try. The clear glass lets the contents show, so the colour of the oil or serum becomes part of the product’s appearance. The thick base gives the bottle stability on the table and sets it apart from ordinary pharmaceutical bottles.

The black cap is made of aluminium with a sealing liner of polyethylene foam (EPE). Once tightened, the liner sits on the neck of the bottle and seals it. Both the bottle and the cap have an 18/410 neck finish, so they fit together without trial and error.

The bottle and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What the set is suitable for

  • Oils and oil serums – glass does not react with the oil phase, and after opening, the contents are dispensed directly from the bottle.
  • Perfume oils and tinctures – alcohol-based and oil-based blends do not harm glass, and the cap with liner keeps the contents closed.
  • Samples and travel packs – ten millilitres is enough for several days of using a serum or oil, and the set is light and takes up little space.
  • Small batches – when testing new recipes there is no need to fill large bottles, as one pharmaceutical bottle holds a trial batch.

Nominal volume and brimful volume

The bottle is intended to be filled with 10 ml of content. Physically, however, it is larger, and you can find its total brimful volume in the parameters. The difference between the two figures is a reserve for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you choose a different closure for the bottle sold separately, for example a dropper, the reserve also covers the space taken up by its glass tube.

Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is filled up to the neck, the contents are pushed into the thread when the cap is screwed on, the cap sticks and the liner does not seal properly.

Dispensing and working with the set

With a screw cap, the contents are poured or tapped out directly from the neck. For oils and serums that are applied by the drop, this takes a little practice. The 18 mm neck is, however, narrow enough that the contents do not pour out all at once. When you need more precise dispensing, choose a dropper or a pump with the same neck type for the bottle sold separately.

Closures with an 18/410 neck finish and ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Good to know

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Oils rich in unsaturated fatty acids, essential oils and serums with vitamin C or retinol age faster in light. Store such contents in a box or in the dark, or choose an amber or blue bottle.

A clear bottle shows the contents but does not protect them from light. For sensitive active ingredients and oils prone to oxidation, protection from light must be provided by the outer packaging or the storage location.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based or anhydrous product promotes the growth of microorganisms and impairs the stability of the product.

Glass withstands repeated washing and disinfection, so the set can be used multiple times. At each refill, check that the cap liner still seals. If it does not sit properly, replace the cap. Glass and aluminium are recycled separately, so unscrew the cap before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear 10 ml glass bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. For oils prone to oxidation, essential oils or serums with light-sensitive active ingredients, amber or blue glass is more suitable. If you want to keep the clear look, store the finished product in a box or out of direct light and expect a shorter period of use.
Why does a bottle with a nominal volume of 10 ml have a larger brimful volume?
The difference is a reserve, which is common in packaging. The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for under normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck. The extra space serves for the closure or dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Always fill up to the nominal volume.
Is the set of a glass bottle and an aluminium cap suitable for essential oils?
Yes, glass does not react with essential oils and is suitable for storing them. The cap has a sealing liner that closes the neck once tightened. However, clear glass does not protect essential oils from light, so store them in the dark. For stronger blends, we recommend checking the cap liner after some time and verifying the tightness with the specific oil.
Can a 10 ml glass pharmaceutical bottle be reused?
Yes, the glass bottle can be washed, disinfected and filled again. Use isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let the bottle dry completely before filling. At each refill, check that the cap with the sealing liner still seals. If the liner does not sit properly, replace the cap.
Is a bottle with an aluminium cap also suitable for water-based and alcohol-based contents?
Yes, glass is suitable for water-based, alcohol-based and oil-based contents. Water-based products, for example toners or hydrolates, require preservation regardless of the packaging. For alcohol-based contents, such as tinctures or perfumes, make sure the cap is tightened thoroughly so that the alcohol does not evaporate. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.
What other closure fits this bottle?
Any closure with an 18/410 neck finish fits the bottle, for example a dropper, a pump or a sprayer. Closures with this neck type and ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation, as the behaviour of the closure also depends on the viscosity of the contents.
