Product description

A glass pharmaceutical bottle with a nominal volume of 10 ml and a plain black cap is intended for filling liquid cosmetic products in sample quantities, for travel or for a small batch. Clear glass lets you see the contents, so the colour of the oil or serum remains part of the presentation, and the thick base keeps the narrow little bottle standing stably on a table. The cap fits the 18/410 neck finish and closes the bottle without a dispensing element, so the contents are poured or dripped directly from the neck.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; you will find the declaration of conformity on the product page.

What it is suitable for

The narrow neck and small volume make the bottle suitable for thin to medium-thick liquids. Thick creams and butters are difficult to get out of it; those belong in a jar.

  • Face and hair oils – a recipe sample or a travel pack; the contents are dispensed by tilting the bottle into your palm.
  • Perfume oils and diluted essential oil blends – a small quantity in a carrier oil, where the clear glass shows the shade of the blend.
  • Serum and toner samples – for testing a recipe before making a larger quantity, or for customers before they buy a full-size pack.
  • Tinctures and infusions for cosmetic use – alcohol-based and water-based preparations that are later added to a recipe in small doses.

How the set works

The cap is made of polypropylene (PP) and has a liner made of expanded polyethylene foam (EPE), which sits against the rim of the neck once the cap is tightened. It is closed by hand, without tools. Tightness depends on how firmly the cap is tightened and on whether any residue of the contents has been left on the thread or on the neck, so it is worth wiping the neck before closing.

A plain cap does not dispense. For products that are applied drop by drop or need to be dispensed precisely, choose a dropper instead. You will find closures with the same 18/410 neck type and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is given in the parameters. The difference between them forms a reserve for the cap with its liner and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The clear glass helps here, as the fill level is visible from outside.

Liquid gets into a narrow neck most easily with a small funnel or a syringe without a needle. With oils of higher viscosity, watch out for air bubbles at the bottom.

After filling and tightening the cap, turn the bottle upside down and leave it like that for a few minutes on a paper towel. If a drop appears, check that the neck is clean and that the liner is seated properly before you pack or ship the contents.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the neck gets into an anhydrous product.
  • Glass and temperature – do not pour hot contents into cold glass; let them cool to at least lukewarm. A sudden temperature difference can crack the glass.
  • Cap and concentrated substances – with undiluted essential oils and solvents, we recommend checking the behaviour of the liner over time, in particular whether it softens or becomes deformed.
  • Reuse – the glass can be washed and refilled repeatedly. Replace the cap if the liner is compressed, cracked or soaked with the previous contents.
  • Food – the set is not declared for contact with food; use it for cosmetic products.
  • Recycling – the glass and the plastic cap are sorted separately, each into its own waste stream.

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Store oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, essential oils or serums with sensitive active ingredients in the dark or in a box, or choose amber glass for longer storage.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear 10 ml glass bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. It is suitable for products that are used up quickly, for samples, or for contents that are not affected by light. Store oils prone to oxidation, essential oils and serums with sensitive active ingredients in the dark, or fill them into amber or blue glass.
How much fits into a 10 ml glass bottle with a black cap?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not to the brim. The total volume up to the neck is larger and is given in the parameters. This difference serves as a reserve for the cap with its liner and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill up to the neck, the contents will overflow when you close the bottle or will get onto the thread.
Can a glass bottle with a black cap be reused?
Yes, the glass part can be washed and refilled repeatedly. Before each refill, wash it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry. Check the cap. If the expanded polyethylene foam liner is compressed or soaked with the previous contents, it will stop sealing and it is advisable to replace the cap.
Is a 10 ml glass bottle with a plain cap suitable for essential oils and alcohol tinctures?
The limitation is usually the cap rather than the glass. With undiluted essential oils and solvents, we recommend checking whether the cap liner softens or becomes deformed over time. For contents that are dispensed drop by drop, a dropper with the same 18/410 thread is also more convenient than pouring from the neck.
Which closure fits a 10 ml glass bottle with an 18/410 thread?
The set already includes a plain black cap that fits the 18/410 thread. If you need a different way of dispensing, choose a closure with the same 18/410 neck type from the Handymade range. With every new combination, we recommend testing the tightness with your specific contents, because it varies with the viscosity of the contents and how firmly the closure is tightened.
Is the 10 ml glass bottle set with a cap suitable for cosmetics and for food?
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; it is not declared for contact with food. You should therefore use it for oils, serums, toners, tinctures and other cosmetic products. If you need packaging for food, choose packaging that has a separate declaration for this purpose.
