Product description

This clear glass bottle with a capacity of 100 ml and a black aluminium cap is intended for filling liquid cosmetic products whose contents should remain visible: facial and body oils, tinctures, toners, facial lotions or oil serums. Clear glass shows the colour and clarity of the contents, does not tint them and does not absorb fragrance, so it also suits products with essential oils, alcohol or plant extracts. The threaded cap closes the bottle tightly, and the black colour contrasts with the clear contents, which you will appreciate when building your own product line.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

How the set works

The bottle has the shape of a pharmaceutical bottle: a straight cylindrical body and a narrower threaded neck. The narrower neck limits the amount poured out at once, so oils and tinctures can be dispensed in a controlled way even without a dropper. The aluminium cap has a sealing liner made of foamed polyethylene (EPE) on the inside. When tightened, it sits against the rim of the neck and prevents both leakage and evaporation of the contents. The cap is tightened by hand, without tools.

Nominal and total capacity

The nominal capacity of 100 ml is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful capacity is the physical volume up to the top of the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between the two is a margin for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle up to the nominal capacity. If you fill it up to the neck, the liquid overflows when you close it and the cap liner does not seat cleanly.

What it is suitable for

  • Oil serums and facial oils – glass does not react with oils, the cap with its liner seals and the contents are visible, so you can easily check both the amount and the clarity.
  • Tinctures and alcohol-based products – neither alcohol nor essential oils damage glass, and the aluminium cap limits evaporation.
  • Toners and facial lotions – water-based products with a preservative, in a volume that is used up within a few weeks.
  • Test batches – through the clear glass you can observe phase separation, cloudiness or colour change while testing a formulation.

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Store oils prone to oxidation or blends with essential oils in a dark cupboard, or choose amber or blue glass for them.

Good to know

  • Preparation before the first filling – wash the bottle, rinse it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Wipe the cap and its liner with alcohol and let them dry, so that they do not introduce moisture into the contents.
  • Reuse – after washing and disinfection, the glass can be filled again. Check that the cap liner holds and is not damaged, otherwise it stops sealing.
  • Glass and heat – do not pour hot mixtures into the bottle, as a sudden change in temperature can crack the glass. Let the contents cool down first.
  • Closures – you will find other closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you build your own combination, we recommend verifying the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the bottle belongs with glass, and the aluminium cap is sorted separately as metal.

The set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the cap does not. For home-made oils or syrups, therefore, use the bottle with a closure that has a food-contact certificate.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear glass bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass does not block light. For oils prone to oxidation, products with essential oils or light-sensitive active ingredients, amber or blue glass is more suitable, or you can store the filled bottle in a cupboard without access to light. For ordinary toners and stable oils, clear glass is sufficient, and you can also see how much of the contents is left and whether they have changed.
How much does a 100 ml glass bottle actually hold?
The bottle is filled to 100 ml, which is its nominal capacity. Physically, it holds more up to the top of the neck, and you will find the exact total capacity in the parameters. The remainder is a margin for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill the bottle up to the rim, the liquid overflows when you close it and the cap liner will not seal.
Is a glass bottle with an aluminium cap suitable for oils and tinctures?
Yes, glass does not react with oils, alcohol or essential oils, and the aluminium cap with a sealing liner limits leakage and evaporation. The liner also separates the contents from the metal. Oils pour out of the narrower neck in small amounts, so the bottle can be used even without a dropper.
Can a glass bottle with a black aluminium cap be used for food?
The set as a whole is not intended for food, because only the bottle has a certificate for direct food contact; the aluminium cap does not. The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. If you need packaging for home-made oil or syrup, combine the bottle with a closure that has a food-contact certificate.
How do I prepare a glass bottle before filling, and can it be reused?
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, rinse it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Proceed in the same way before every further filling, as glass withstands repeated use. Wipe the cap with alcohol and check the sealing liner. If it is damaged or does not hold, replace the cap, otherwise the contents leak and evaporate.
Does the aluminium cap seal well enough for transporting a filled bottle?
Yes, when tightened by hand, the sealing liner sits against the rim of the neck and the contents do not leak during normal transport. Before dispatching products, we recommend verifying the tightness with your specific contents: turn the filled and closed bottle upside down and leave it lying on absorbent paper for several hours. Do not fill the bottle to the rim, so that the contents have room to expand.
