Product description
A glass bottle with a black aluminium cap with a nominal volume of 10 ml is a ready-to-use small cosmetic container that can be filled and sealed straight away. It is particularly suitable for samples and testers, small batches of facial oils, serums and oil concentrates, fragrance test blends, and wherever a manufacturer needs to hand over or store a small quantity without unnecessary headspace.
The base is a clear glass vial that shows the contents – the colour of an oil, the clarity of a serum or any sediment without opening. The aluminium screw cap closes the bottle securely and is lightweight. Both components are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products, so the complete set is intended for filling with cosmetics.
What the set is suitable for
- Samples and testers – the small volume makes it possible to distribute trial quantities of facial oil, serum or massage oil without the customer having to purchase a full-size pack.
- Oil serums and concentrates – glass does not react with oils or lipophilic active ingredients, so the contents retain their original composition.
- Fragrance test blends – when developing a perfume composition or a blend of essential oils in a carrier oil, a few millilitres are enough, and the clear glass reveals any cloudiness.
- Small batches for stability testing – a portion of production is stored in the bottle to monitor changes in colour, fragrance or phase separation.
- Travel pack – a secure closure and oil-resistant glass make the set a practical few-days' supply.
Nominal and total volume
Two values are distinguished for every container. The nominal volume is the quantity for which the bottle is intended under normal filling conditions – in this case 10 ml. The total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is always higher. The difference between them provides a margin for the closure, any dropper or pump, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, never to the brim. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents may be pushed into the thread when the cap is screwed on, preventing a tight seal.
How to work with the set
The bottle has a narrow threaded neck, so it is best filled using a small funnel or a filling syringe. With oils and thicker serums it is worth filling slowly to prevent an air bubble forming in the narrow neck, which would distort the measured quantity.
The aluminium cap has a foam polyethylene sealing insert on the inside, which seats on the neck and seals the contents when tightened. The cap is tightened by hand, without force. Aluminium is a soft metal and excessive tightening deforms the thread, which actually reduces the seal.
Before first use, wash both the bottle and the cap, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual moisture in an anhydrous oil or serum could promote microbial growth.
The contents are dispensed by pouring or dripping through the neck. If the formulation requires precise drop-by-drop dosing, the cap can be replaced with a dropper with the same neck type. Closures with the same neck type as stated in the specifications, and ready-made combinations, are available in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dosing and behaviour of the container with the specific formulation.
Good to know
Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. For oils and active ingredients sensitive to light – for example unrefined vegetable oils, vitamin C in oil form or retinoids – amber or blue glass is more suitable. Alternatively, the set can be used for short-term samples and stored in a box or in the dark.
The set is not declared for contact with food. It is intended for cosmetic products – for domestic oils, syrups or extracts, choose a container with the relevant certification.
Glass tolerates sudden temperature changes poorly. Do not fill the bottle with a hot phase straight from boiling and do not transfer it from the refrigerator to hot water. Allow warm contents to cool to room temperature first; this will also prevent moisture from condensing under the cap.
With concentrated essential oils, perfume compositions or solvents, we recommend checking the behaviour of the cap's sealing insert on prolonged contact. The glass part is resistant to these contents; the plastic insert may soften or absorb the fragrance over time with certain ingredients.
The bottle and cap can be reused after washing and disinfecting. When changing from a fragranced to an unfragranced product, it is better to replace the cap insert or use a new cap – the foam polyethylene retains the fragrance. A small label can be applied to the cylindrical surface of the bottle.
When the bottle has reached the end of its life, glass goes in the glass recycling and the aluminium cap goes with metals. It is advisable to remove the sealing insert before sorting.
