Product description

A glass vial with a black aluminium cap is a complete packaging solution for liquid cosmetic products dispensed by pouring — from tonics and hydrolates to body oils and alcoholic extracts. Glass does not react with the contents, does not absorb scent, and can be thoroughly cleaned, making it suitable for water-based, oil-based, and alcohol-based fills.

The bottle with a nominal volume of 100 ml is supplied together with the cap, so it can be sealed immediately after filling. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. A food-contact certificate applies to the glass bottle individually; the complete set is intended for cosmetic use only.

How the cap seals and how the vial dispenses

The aluminium cap has a polyethylene foam sealing insert inside. When tightened, the insert presses against the rim of the neck and seals it, preventing leaks and keeping the scent from escaping. The black finish looks understated on glass and suits products sold under a private label.

The cap has no dispenser. The contents are poured through the narrow neck, which slows the flow and makes it easier to pour a small amount into the palm or onto a cotton pad. Thin and medium-viscosity liquids dispense comfortably. Thick gels and creams are difficult to fill or remove through a narrow neck; a jar is more suitable for those.

Which products it is suitable for

  • Tonics, hydrolats and facial waters – water-based products applied with a cotton pad or the palm of the hand.
  • Body, massage and bath oils – glass cleans easily after oil and does not absorb its scent.
  • Alcohol extracts and tinctures for cosmetic use – glass tolerates ethanol without any change in properties.
  • Liquid intermediates during production – your own extracts, macerated oils or blends ready for further processing.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the vial is designed to hold under standard filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the top of the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them provides headspace for the closure and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Specific values are listed in the product parameters.

Fill the vial to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The headspace below the neck prevents overflow when closing and stops the fill from being pushed around the cap when it expands in the heat.

What to know before filling

Before first use, it is recommended to wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry completely. The cap simply needs to be wiped with a disinfectant and left to air out. Water residues inside the packaging reduce the microbiological stability of the product, especially with anhydrous oils.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Hot fill should not be poured into a cold bottle, and a hot bottle should not be placed into cold water. When filling at elevated temperature, it helps to warm the bottle slightly beforehand.

With concentrated essential oils, fragrance compositions and products containing a high proportion of solvents, we recommend verifying in advance that the foam insert in the cap does not deform after prolonged contact and that the cap still seals properly.

Labels adhere best to dry and degreased glass. The dimensions needed for label design are listed in the product parameters. Closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 100 ml glass vial with an aluminium cap suitable for oils and alcoholic tinctures?
Yes, the glass vial is suitable for vegetable oils, alcoholic extracts and aqueous solutions, as glass does not react with these fills. The only element that requires attention is the foam insert in the cap. With concentrated essential oils and products containing a high proportion of solvents, it is advisable to test a sample and verify that the closure still seals after several weeks.
How many ml should be filled into a vial with a nominal volume of 100 ml?
The vial should be filled to 100 ml, i.e. its nominal volume. The physical volume to the brim is slightly larger, but this space should remain empty as headspace for the closure and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Filling right to the brim may cause overflow when closing or force the contents past the cap in the heat.
Is the vial and aluminium cap set suitable for food use?
The complete set is not approved for food contact; it is intended for cosmetic products. The food-contact certificate applies to the glass bottle individually; the aluminium cap does not hold one. For home-made syrups, oils or herbal extracts intended for consumption, the bottle should therefore be paired with a closure that carries a food-contact approval.
Can the glass vial with an aluminium cap be reused?
Yes, the glass vial can be reused, as glass can be thoroughly washed and sanitised. After emptying, wash it with warm water and soap, rinse, sanitise with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, and leave it to dry. Before reuse, inspect the cap: if the insert is compressed, damaged or has absorbed the scent of the previous contents, it is better to replace it.
Can a dropper or spray pump be fitted to the vial instead of the cap?
Yes, a different closure can be fitted to the vial as long as it has the same neck type. The neck type is stated in the product parameters and is used to select the correct closure. With a custom combination it is advisable to verify the seal, the length of the dip tube relative to the bottle height, and how the closure behaves with a specific formulation, particularly with thicker or oil-based fills.
