Product description

This white plastic bottle with a black cap holds 100 ml and is used for filling liquid and thin cosmetic products that are dispensed by pouring: facial and hair tonics, massage and body oils, cleansing oils, shower gels or travel-size shampoos. The set consists of a PET bottle with an 18/410 neck finish and a plain PP screw cap, so once filled the packaging is closed straight away and ready to use.

The white opaque material reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate with oils, extracts and products containing essential oils, which age faster in light. PET does not break, so the bottle is suitable for the bathroom, a travel bag and samples for customers. Both the bottle and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The bottle on its own also has a certificate for direct contact with food; the cap does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Tonics and facial waters – thin water-based products are poured from the narrow neck in a controlled way, without spilling.
  • Massage and body oils – the opaque wall protects oils from light.
  • Make-up removing and cleansing oils – wherever the product is dispensed into the palm in a small stream.
  • Shower gels and shampoos – 100 ml is enough for a travel pack or a trial batch of a new formulation.
  • Samples and test batches – the lightweight packaging is suitable for sending out samples and for comparing several versions of a formulation.

Thicker creams and balms are difficult to dispense from this bottle with a plain cap. A jar or a bottle with a pump is more suitable for such products.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling, in this case 100 ml. The brim-full volume, that is the physical volume up to the neck, is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the cap, for the air gap above the surface and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. A product poured up to the neck overflows when the cap is screwed on and, when warmed, may press against the closure.

Before the first filling, wash and disinfect the bottle and the cap and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the packaging dilutes the product and increases the risk of microbial contamination.

Cap and sealing

The cap is a screw cap, without a dispensing opening, with an 18/410 neck finish matching the neck of the bottle. The contents are dispensed by unscrewing the cap and pouring, which suits products that are used in larger amounts or poured into the palm. If you combine the set with different contents, we recommend checking the leak-tightness on the first pieces: fill the bottle, screw on the cap, lay the bottle on its side and leave it for several hours. In the Handymade range you will also find other closures for the same type of neck and ready-made combinations of a bottle with a closure.

Good to know

Protect the bottle from heat. Let emulsions and gels cool to room temperature before pouring, and do not leave the finished product in the bottle behind a car window or next to a radiator.

Concentrated essential oils, fragrance compositions and aggressive solvents may affect plastic during prolonged contact. At normal cosmetic usage rates this is usually not a problem. With a high proportion of essential oils or alcohol, test how the packaging behaves on one piece before filling a larger quantity.

The set is not intended for food. Only the bottle itself has a certificate for direct contact with food; the cap has no such approval, so the combination is used for cosmetics.

After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be refilled. When reusing it, check the thread and how the cap seats, or replace the cap with a new one. At the end of their life, both the PET bottle and the PP cap belong in separate collection for plastics.

Frequently asked questions

Does the white PET bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, white opaque PET lets less light through to the contents than clear plastic or clear glass. For oils, extracts and products with essential oils this is an advantage, because they age faster in light and change their fragrance. However, the plastic does not protect against heat, so keep the bottle out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.
Can I fill the 100 ml plastic bottle with a warm cream or emulsion?
No, let the emulsion or gel cool to room temperature before pouring. A PET bottle should be protected from heat, and warm contents put unnecessary strain on it. With thicker creams, also consider whether they can be dispensed comfortably from the narrow neck. A jar or a bottle with a pump is usually more suitable for them.
Is the set of bottle and cap suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the black cap does not. The whole combination of bottle and cap is therefore declared suitable for cosmetic products, for example tonics, oils, shower gels or shampoos.
How much liquid can be poured into the 100 ml bottle?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, that is 100 ml. The physical volume up to the neck is slightly larger, but this reserve serves as an air gap under the cap and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill the bottle to the brim, the product overflows when the cap is screwed on, and the packaging may press against the closure when warmed.
Can I use the white PET bottle for products with essential oils or alcohol?
With common cosmetic amounts of essential oils and alcohol, a PET bottle can usually be used without problems. However, concentrated essential oils, fragrance compositions and aggressive solvents may affect plastic during prolonged contact. With a high proportion of these ingredients, fill one piece first and after several weeks check the shape of the bottle, the fragrance and the leak-tightness.
