Product description

An amber plastic medicine bottle with a volume of 115 ml, supplied as a set with a black screw cap, is used for filling and storing liquid cosmetic products that are dispensed by pouring out or by pouring into the palm. The amber PET dims light, so it protects contents that are sensitive to sunlight, for example vegetable oils, oil blends or toners with plant extracts. The plastic is light and does not break when dropped, which you will appreciate when producing for sale, when posting products and with small bottles that are carried in a bag.

The cap is plain, without a dispensing opening. The contents are poured directly from the neck, which suits products where a larger amount is measured out at once: massage oil, hair oil, facial toner, make-up remover water or base oil prepared for further production. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The certificate for direct contact with food applies to the bottle alone; the cap does not have it, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.

What it is suitable for

  • Oils and oil blends – amber plastic limits the access of light, which accelerates yellowing and changes in the smell of oils; the 115 ml volume corresponds to a common pack of massage or body oil.
  • Toners and facial waters – water-based products without a pump, applied to a cotton pad or into the palm.
  • Hair oils and treatments – pouring from the neck allows a larger dose to be measured out for the lengths of the hair.
  • Intermediate products in production – storing macerated oils, oil extracts or a weighed-out oil phase before further processing, where the dark packaging protects the contents between individual batches.
  • Samples and short runs – lightweight packaging lowers delivery costs and does not break in transport.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume of 115 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is larger. The difference is a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes, for example during transport in summer. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume and the space above it is left free.

Before first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely upside down. Residual water in the packaging shortens the shelf life of anhydrous products and puts a strain on the preservative system in water-based products.

Good to know

The cap is made of PP and has an EPE sealing liner, which is pressed against the neck when tightened and seals the joint. Tighten it by hand until you feel resistance. Over-tightening deforms the liner and the seal becomes worse. For products intended for posting, we recommend turning a bottle filled with the actual formulation upside down and leaving it to stand for several hours to check the seal in advance.

Do not expose the packaging to aggressive chemicals. For products with a high proportion of essential oils, fragrance compositions or solvents, we recommend testing how the packaging behaves with the specific formulation on one bottle and monitoring the appearance of the plastic and the fragrance of the contents regularly.

Hot fills do not belong in PET. Fill the bottle only after the product has cooled to room temperature, otherwise the plastic may deform and the neck will stop sealing.

The bottle has a neck with the thread stated in the parameters. Closures with the same neck type and ready-made bottle and closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation.

The packaging can be reused. Between fills, wash it, disinfect it and dry it thoroughly, including the inside of the cap and the sealing liner, where residues of oil remain. The PET bottle and the PP cap belong in separate plastic waste collection.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber plastic medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET dims the passage of light and slows the changes that light causes in oils and plant extracts. It is not a complete blackout, however, so storing products with very sensitive ingredients out of direct sunlight will also help. For ordinary massage oils, toners and hair oils, the protection provided by amber plastic is sufficient.
Is the set of a 115 ml plastic medicine bottle with a black cap suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. The certificate for direct contact with food applies to the bottle alone; the black cap does not have this declaration. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics and is intended for cosmetic products, not for cooking oils or syrups.
Can I fill a plastic PET medicine bottle with essential oils or a fragrance blend?
Products with a low proportion of essential oils, for example a massage oil with a usage rate of up to a few percent, normally belong in PET. The packaging should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals, so for concentrated essential oils and blends with a high proportion of fragrance or solvents we recommend testing on one bottle and monitoring the appearance of the plastic. If in doubt, choose glass packaging.
How much actually fits into a bottle with a nominal volume of 115 ml?
It is filled to the nominal volume of 115 ml, even though the physical volume up to the neck is larger. The remaining space is a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If you fill the bottle to the brim, the contents will be pushed towards the thread when the cap is screwed on and, when warmed, the joint may start to seal less well.
Can a plastic medicine bottle with a cap be reused?
Yes, both the bottle and the cap can be used repeatedly. Before a new fill, wash the packaging, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Pay attention to the sealing liner in the cap, where residues of oil and fragrance remain. If the plastic is cloudy or the liner is damaged, do not use the packaging for cosmetics any more.
