Product description

A ready-made set for water-based and alcohol-based sprays: a clear PET bottle with a nominal volume of 150 ml and a fitted mini trigger sprayer with a 24/410 neck finish, a white head and a silver matte collar. The contents and their level are visible through the bottle wall. The bottle is lightweight and does not break when dropped, so it holds up in the bathroom, in a handbag and in a travel bag. The sprayer distributes the liquid evenly over the skin or hair, without spilling and without your hands touching the contents.

The set is most useful for toners, hydrosols, face and body mists and thin water-based or alcohol-based hair sprays. Both parts are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and you will find the declaration of conformity with the product. The set is not declared suitable for contact with food.

What it is suitable for

  • Face toners and hydrosols – the thin, water-like consistency is sprayed evenly and applied directly to the skin, without cotton pads.
  • Refreshing face and body mists – the 150 ml volume fits even into a smaller bag.
  • Hair sprays – leave-in water-based conditioners, hydrosol sprays or detangling solutions.
  • Alcohol-based sprays – fabric fresheners, yoga mat sprays and other thin alcohol-based solutions that are meant to reach the surface in a thin layer.
  • Samples and test batches – through the clear wall you can see whether the contents turn cloudy or separate over time.

Sprayer and dispensing

The sprayer is mechanical, with no compressed gas. One press dispenses approximately 0.12 ml of the contents. It is designed for liquids with a water-like or alcohol-like consistency. Thick gels, emulsions and most oils will not pass through the sprayer, or they will not be dispersed and will only form a jet. With lighter oils and oil blends, test the behaviour of the nozzle on a small amount first.

The dip tube is longer than the height of the bottle. Before fitting it for the first time, shorten it with an angled cut so that it reaches just above the bottom. The sprayer will then draw up the contents until only a small residue is left at the bottom.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the sprayer, rinse them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water would dilute the contents and could impair their microbiological stability.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The brimful capacity given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference is a reserve for the tube and the body of the sprayer and for the slight expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume, never to the brim, otherwise part of the contents will overflow when the sprayer is screwed on.

If you combine the bottle with a different closure with a 24/410 neck finish, check the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation. You will find other closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range.

Good to know

Clear PET does not protect the contents from light. For light-sensitive formulations, especially those with vitamin C, plant extracts or essential oils in a higher proportion, packaging that blocks light is more suitable, for example dark glass. The sprayer limits contact of the contents with fingers, but it does not replace preservation of a water-based formulation.

Do not fill the bottle with hot contents and do not keep it near heat sources. For sprays with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, check compatibility with the plastic on a smaller amount, or choose glass packaging instead.

Do not fill the bottle with warm or hot solutions. At elevated temperatures the PET may deform and the sprayer will stop sealing.

The set can be used repeatedly. Before each new filling, rinse the bottle and the tube, pump clean water through the sprayer and let it dry. The bottle is made of PET and the sprayer head of PP with an aluminium collar. Before disposal, the two parts are separated and sorted separately.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear 150 ml plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through. The contents are visible, but light-sensitive formulations, for example those with vitamin C or sensitive plant extracts, may change faster in it. For such products, packaging that blocks light is more suitable, for example dark glass. For ordinary toners, hydrosols and refreshing mists stored out of direct sunlight, a clear bottle is sufficient.
How much liquid does the 24/410 sprayer dispense with one press?
One press dispenses approximately 0.12 ml of the contents. This dose applies to thin water-based and alcohol-based contents, which the mini trigger sprayer is designed for. With thicker liquids, both the amount and the shape of the spray change, or the nozzle stops dispersing the liquid.
Can oil be sprayed through the sprayer?
The mini trigger sprayer is designed for liquids with a water-like or alcohol-like consistency. Thicker oils will not disperse, will form a jet or will not pass through the nozzle at all. Light oils and oil blends may work, but test a small amount and also watch whether the oil affects the PET over time.
Why is the bottle with the sprayer not filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 150 ml. The difference between the nominal volume and the brimful capacity is a reserve for the tube and the body of the sprayer and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If it is filled to the brim, part of the contents is pushed out when the sprayer is fitted and the packaging may leak.
How do I clean the bottle with the sprayer before reusing it?
Wash the bottle with warm water and washing-up liquid, rinse it, then disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Pump clean water through the sprayer several times and then pump it empty, so that no remainder of the old contents is left in the tube. Fill the new product only into dry packaging.
