Product description

A clear PET bottle with a capacity of 150 ml and a pump with a 24/410 neck finish make up a ready-to-use packaging set for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products that are dispensed in doses. The bottle is lightweight and, unlike glass, does not break when dropped. Through the clear wall you can see the colour of the contents and how much is left. The black and silver pump closes the neck and replaces pouring: one press dispenses approximately 1 ml of the product, which is enough for washing your hands, applying body lotion or dispensing a portion of shampoo.

The set is intended for cosmetics. Both the bottle and the pump are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the set is not declared suitable for food.

What it is suitable for

The pump works best with products that flow freely or have the consistency of a lotion. It is suitable for:

  • Liquid soaps and cleansing gels – next to the sink in the bathroom or kitchen, where the contents are dispensed many times a day with one hand.
  • Body and face lotions – light O/W emulsions, which the pump draws up and measures out without any problem.
  • Shampoos, conditioners and shower gels – in the 150 ml size as a travel pack or a sample for your customer.
  • Make-up removing oils and emulsions – the pump handles liquid oils. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, check beforehand how PET reacts to them.
  • Cleaning and hygiene solutions – aqueous solutions with surfactants, where you need a controlled dose.

The pump may not be able to draw up thick creams, butters and products with solid particles, for example scrubs. If the viscosity is borderline, try a single pack first and only then fill a larger batch.

How to work with the set

The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume, that is, up to 150 ml. The total brim-full volume is larger, but the space above the nominal volume serves as a reserve. The tube and the body of the pump fit into it, and the contents have room to expand when the temperature changes. If you fill the bottle right up to the neck, part of the product is pushed out when you screw the pump on and leaves the thread sticky.

The pump tube is longer than the height of the bottle. Before screwing the pump on, shorten the tube with a sharp knife so that it reaches the bottom but does not rest against it. Make a straight cut; a slanted or bent end may seal itself against the bottom.

After screwing the pump on, press it several times until the tube fills and the product starts to come out. The first doses are often smaller or contain air.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash both the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Rinse the pump by pressing it several times in a container of clean water and then in the disinfectant solution, so that the internal mechanism is cleaned as well. Residual water in the tube would dilute the product during filling and introduce microbes into it.

Clear PET does not protect the contents from light. Products with light-sensitive ingredients, for example vitamin C, retinoids or vegetable oils prone to oxidation, belong in dark packaging or at least away from direct daylight. For ordinary washing products and lotions with a functional preservative system, clarity is not a problem: the customer can see what they are buying and how much is left.

Protect PET from heat. Fill only with a product that has cooled down, never a hot emulsion straight after emulsification, and do not put the bottle in the dishwasher or in hot water. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, check beforehand whether the bottle wall turns cloudy or changes shape.

The set can be used repeatedly. When changing the contents, the same cleaning procedure applies as before the first filling. When changing the type of product, for example from an oil-based to a water-based one, rinse the pump more thoroughly, as oil residues in the mechanism are difficult to remove with an aqueous solution.

The pump is made of polypropylene with an aluminium element, the bottle of PET. Take the set apart before recycling: the bottle goes with plastics, while the pump contains a combination of materials and is sorted separately.

If you want to replace the pump with another closure, choose from closures with the same neck finish in the Handymade range, or go for ready-made combinations. For your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the clear 150 ml PET bottle with a pump suitable for serums with vitamin C?
We do not recommend clear packaging for light-sensitive products. PET lets light through, and unstabilised active ingredients such as ascorbic acid or retinol lose their effectiveness and change colour faster in it. The set is better suited to washing products, lotions and light emulsions, where clarity does not matter. A serum with vitamin C belongs in amber or blue glass.
How much product fits in a bottle with a 24/410 pump when its total volume is more than 150 ml?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 150 ml. The remainder up to the rim of the neck is a reserve for the tube and the body of the pump and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill the bottle to the brim, the product is pushed out when the pump is screwed on and leaves the thread sticky.
Can a plastic bottle with a pump be washed and used again?
Yes, the set is intended for repeated use. Wash the bottle with warm, not hot, water and detergent, disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and let it dry. Rinse the pump by pressing it repeatedly in clean water and then in the disinfectant solution, so that the mechanism and the tube are cleaned as well. The set does not belong in the dishwasher.
How thick a product can the plastic 24/410 pump still draw up?
The pump, with a dose of approximately 1 ml, is intended for liquid and milky consistencies: liquid soaps, gels, body and face lotions, light emulsions and oils. It may not draw up thick creams, butters and products with particles, or the mechanism may clog. If the viscosity is borderline, try a single pack and, if necessary, dilute the formulation slightly.
Can I fill a PET bottle and pump with a cleansing oil containing essential oils?
You can fill a PET bottle with liquid vegetable oils, and the pump will measure them out without any problem. With a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or other solvents, check beforehand whether the bottle material turns cloudy, softens or takes on the scent. Test a small amount in one pack over several weeks and only then fill the whole batch.
