Product description

A plastic bottle with a disc top cap is a ready-to-use set for liquid to medium-viscosity cosmetic products dispensed by squeezing the bottle: shampoos, shower gels, body lotions, or massage oils. The bottle is made of PET, which is lightweight and shatter-resistant, making it suitable for the bathroom, shower, and travel. The transparent material lets you see the colour and consistency of the contents, as well as how much product remains.

The closure is a disc top cap in silver with a white centre. It opens by pressing down on one side of the disc and closes by pressing back, even with one hand. The cap stays on the bottle during use, so it is never set aside or lost. The nominal volume of 100 ml is practical for smaller batches, samples, gift sets, and travel sizes.

Which products is the set suitable for

The disc top has a small dispensing opening through which the contents are dispensed by gently squeezing the bottle walls. It therefore works best with products that flow but are not as thin as water:

  • Hair care – shampoos, conditioners, and thinner rinse-out masks, dispensed directly into the palm.
  • Shower gels and liquid soaps – the tall, slim shape is easy to hold and the cap can be opened without putting the bottle down.
  • Body lotions and light emulsions – fluid O/W emulsions that pass through the opening without heavy pressure.
  • Body and massage oils – the opening releases oil in small doses, preventing spillage.
  • Cleansing gels – dispensed into the palm or onto a cotton pad.

Thick creams, butters, and pastes will not pass through the small opening; a jar is more suitable for those. Very thin liquids such as hydrosols and toners flow out too quickly and are harder to control. A spray bottle is more practical for them.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is intended under standard filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference between them serves as a reserve for the closure and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If overfilled, the contents will be pushed into the thread when the cap is screwed on, or will splash out when first opened.

When filling by weight, the density of the product must be taken into account: 100 ml of oil weighs less than 100 g, and a thick gel may weigh more. The most reliable approach is to measure the volume with the first bottle and note the fill level.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. It is recommended to wash both the bottle and the cap with warm water and a cleaning agent, then rinse thoroughly. They are then disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. Water residue inside the packaging increases the risk of microbial contamination, particularly in water-containing products.

PET does not tolerate high temperatures. The bottle should not be boiled, sterilised with hot steam, or filled with a hot product, as the walls may deform. Allow the product to cool to approximately room temperature before filling.

Material sensitivity. PET tolerates common aqueous, surfactant-based, emulsion, and oil-based cosmetic products well. Caution is warranted with concentrated essential oils and strong solvents, which can degrade or cloud the plastic over time. The transparent bottle also does not protect the contents from light, so light-sensitive products should be stored away from direct sunlight.

Labelling. The dimensions required for label design are listed in the parameters. Labels should be applied to a dry, degreased surface, ideally before filling or after thoroughly wiping the filled bottle.

Closure and leak-tightness. The cap should be tightened by hand with moderate force, and the disc should be pressed into the closed position before transport. Additional closures with the same neck type (specified in the parameters) and ready-made combinations are available from Handymade. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying the leak-tightness, dispensing behaviour, and compatibility of the packaging with the specific formulation.

Intended use and sorting. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. It is not declared suitable for contact with food. The cap combines aluminium and PP, and should therefore be separated from the PET bottle when sorting for recycling.

Frequently asked questions

What products is the 100 ml plastic bottle with disc top cap suitable for?
The plastic bottle with a disc top cap is suitable for liquid to medium-viscosity cosmetic products dispensed by squeezing the bottle: shampoos, shower gels, conditioners, body lotions, liquid soaps, and body oils. Thick creams and butters will not pass through the small cap opening and are better suited to a jar. Very thin liquids flow out too quickly, so a spray bottle is more appropriate for them.
Can a PET bottle with a disc top cap be filled with a hot product?
No, the PET bottle is not intended for hot filling. At high temperatures the walls soften and the bottle may deform. Shampoo, gel, or emulsion should be allowed to cool to approximately room temperature before filling. For the same reason, the bottle should not be boiled or sterilised with steam. It is disinfected with alcohol and left to dry completely before filling.
Does the transparent plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, the transparent PET bottle transmits light and does not protect the contents from it. For everyday shampoos and shower gels this is not an issue when stored away from direct sunlight. Products containing plant oils prone to oxidation, natural pigments, or active ingredients sensitive to light are best kept in a cabinet or filled into a coloured container.
Is a plastic PET bottle suitable for products containing essential oils?
Yes, a PET bottle is suitable for products with essential oils at typical cosmetic concentrations. Fragranced shampoos, shower gels, and body lotions can be stored in it without concern. However, concentrated essential oils and strong solvents may degrade or cloud the plastic over time. For products with a high proportion of these, a test storage period in the packaging is recommended beforehand.
Can the bottle with a disc top cap be reused?
Yes, both the bottle and the disc top cap can be reused after thorough cleaning. They are washed with warm water and a cleaning agent; the cap is rinsed several times with the disc open, and everything is disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. All parts must dry completely before refilling. A scratched, clouded, or deformed bottle is best replaced.
